Another one for the College 'Kids'
Alright guys. It's a brand new semester, and almost everyone should have finished their first week of classes or are just now starting. So here it is. What do you think will be your most challenging class this semester? For me, it would definitely have to be Inorganic Chemistry II, and it's not just the content. My professor seems a little out of date with the new technology that they installed in the class rooms, and it takes him 10 minutes of class time loading the laptop and opening up the powerpoint from his memory stick.

mine would be Issues in Biotechnology.... its a subject i don't know much about, not really all that interested and it only meets once a week for about 3 hours..., but hopefully i'll at least get a passing grade :D

Uhoh... a prof that's behind the times! You NEVER upload Powerpoints from a stick!! That's why it's taking so long. You have my sympathy.

Hmm...toughest class. Well, that would have to be Ornithology. It's a fun class with a great teacher, but it's the first 4000 level class I've ever taken. Otherwise, I planned this semester to be a 'gentle' one after almost losing it last term. I passed all those classes BTW. :)

Tons of luck to all students!! :gj:

Mine is going to be either Steel II or Analysis II. They both sound so gentle and tame...they lie. -_- Steel is a project based course (cool!) but there is soo much work for each check. And there are graded checks every other week. Analysis is a numerical analysis course, where we have to learn the processes and then write a program that can run the process we just learned. (have I mentioned that even Excel kicks my butt?)

If I don't die this semester I'll be good :P

Integrated Microelectronic circuits will be tough. Prof is sort of boring and it is at 9am. Other classes should be fine, just a typical electrical engineering semester. :)

I have one class! It's also the bane of my real life existence, not so much school wise. It's okay so far, and I've had worse courseloads. Yay for being done with school in 7 weeks!

think im gonna have to say political science: american public policy pertaining to national security. its not that the class is hard its that its hard staying awake. its a brand new building with 3 HUGE screens for powerpoints but instead he writes major points on the board all squished together in horrible handwriting, talks in a monotone voice, assigns 3 diffrent books and expects you to keep up. psh! next semester is gonna KILL ME!!!

hmm...my hardest class this semester will probably be The Macro Economy Today. I really don't like economics, it is my professor's first semester ever as a teacher, and I really don't like econ. None of my classes this semester are really going to be difficult I don't think, but they all have a ton of work associated with them it seems. At least my earliest class is at 12:30 and I don't have class on Friday! But for real...COME ON SUMMER!:taz::rolleye2:

    Oh...and did I mention I really don't like econ?

Nice. Matlab will make your life easier, if you can learn it. I'd avoid Excel at all costs.

I go to University of Phoenix online, and take two courses that last nine weeks. The last courses were Java Programming and Geology. Geology was easy, but Java Programming was pretty difficult. I aced both classes, but had to put a lot of effort forth in Programming. This term I am taking Internet Concepts and Algebra 1. Honestly I think that Algebra 1 will be harder for me. I am terrible at math. Internet Concepts has a lot to do with web development, which I am pretty familiar with.

My most challenging is going to be Biochemical Toxicology Lab.

Its a really interesting lab and I know I'm going to learn a lot of important things, but its just so much work.

Its a 6 hour lab held on saturday mornings starting at 8:30 AM. The lab report for each lab has be in the form of a scientific journal article and the Prof. told us that we need to spend a minimum of 20 hours working on it to do it correctly.

Last weeks lab we studied the effects of Cyanide and Acrylonitrile and two antidotal treatments. :gj:

Most challenging for me is pretty even this year....sort of

I am taking Orgo II, Cell and Molecular Biology, Comparative Anatomy and Physiology of Vertebrates and social science based on Race, Class and Gender.

Orgo I was really tough for me since I much prefer/understand inorganic chemistry....but things are going really well so far and my professor is doing really well, along with my, albeit hard to understand, TA.

Bio I, aka Population/Ecological Biology, was really interesting and easy for me....Cell and Molecular...not so much. I find it extremely boring, and most of it is repetitive from all the parts of inorganic chem that I didnt like. Too much memorization.

Race, Class, and Gender will be a lot of reading, but shouldnt be too bad....it seems like it is going to make me reminisce about some of my favorite classes, and teacher, from high school.

Now...the big dog....Comparative. It is the first designated class for my major, and I am really enjoying it, but the amount of absolutely new information, vocabulary and terms is insane. I have lab for it tonight and we have to know upwards of 100 specific parts of the cat skull.

Overall, despite previous hard times in orgo, I am expecting my most challenging, but fun class, to be Comparative...but my worst grade to be Bio simply for the lack of motivation to study it :D Gotta love lazy college kids right?

Cool topic...we should do this every semester.

That sounds exactly like one of my semesters sophomore year... Weird :D Except instead of Comp Anat I took Marine Vertebrates, which entailed learning/memorizing A TON of stuff about marine animals... mainly fish. Was hard, but I love that stuff.

Ah, I would if I could. Matlab already has programs that do what we are supposed to be writting. My b/f laughed so hard when I showed him my first assignment. He uses Matlab all the time. My prof isn't that computer literate, and his program of choice is Excel/VBA. Although he is easy to please. He thinks it's the coolest thing ever if you make your program talk, or do something else he hadn't seen before. :P

It isn't so much that it is that hard for me, I just really hate it, I find it extremely boring. I guess that is why I didn't major in it...well that and the fact that accountants almost always have a job.

I just took a class on this topic, a Social Stratification course actually, it was pretty interesting, (it is directly related to my major though.)

I'm on the quarter system, not semesters. I just started a few weeks ago though. I'm taking sociology of the childhood, methods in sociology, psychology of adolescence, and earth sciences 100

I think methods is the most difficult one. There are a lot of new concepts being thrown around I am not very familiar with.

I have Management 3010 (online), Quantitative Methods (Stats for business), Econ 1010, Accounting 2010, and American History 2020 (Post Civil War). The hardest is probably gonna be history just because of the papers. Everything else is seeming pretty easy.

School typically starts at 8 for me but tomorrow it won't start til 11 because they are calling for ice, hopefully the president of the campus will just cancel it.:gj:

That is exactly what mine is, just when I have explained it people like that before I get the "huh?"

It is basically about the social construction of race, class and gender, and how that applies/sets the rules and ideologies for the culture entirely. I find it interesting and I am enjoying the class, but most of the student body despises the dreaded ISS and IAH (Integrated Social scice/Arts and Humanities) that force students to have at least some rounded'ness to their curriculum. Lucky for me, I like those kind of social, and often controversial topics. I think when/if I donate, that will be a loose topic for my member forum...basically a discussion about whatever academic'ish topic I am tuned into at the time.

    Sociology major?

My hardest class will definitely by Chem this semester. New prof, doesn't have her timing down, and of course it's my worst subject. Bye bye 4.0 :tears:

I wish I could just take all Soc classes! I'm lucky to have two though, as a freshman soc major, I have Race and Ethnic Minorities and Marriage and Family. :)

I really think it's silly to make people study what they didn't come to college to study. I'm probably being slightly biased right now, but there are so many problems that go under the radar from day to day thinking.

You're lucky, 4.0, my grades were atrocious my freshmen year compared to now. Keep that up. If you do all the work, talk to the professor about what you don't get, and keep at it, there is no reason for you not to get an A.

    Wahoo! :gj:

I've been working really hard on Chem, reading the chapters before class and doing all of the problems in the back of the book. I even rearranged my work schedule to fit the prof's office hours! I think my saving grace is that I only have to get a 90% for an A, usually that's an A- or a B here.

Yes, his name is Marx :D
I knew I wanted a Soc name and had narrowed it down to Émile, Foucault, or Marx. Didn't think people would be able to pronounce Foucault or would call him Emily, so it's Marx.

I think my hardest this semester is going to be Wildlife Ecology, followed by Animal physiology and Juinor seminar. At lake superior state, we are all required to do a full thesis project, and the seminar classes are there to guide you through the process. Its going to be a royal pain, but i'm looking forward to finishing my research.

Hmm... Hardest This Semester looks to be College Physics 2 and Biochemistry 451. Also have Diseases of Farm Animals, Companion Animal Management, and Introduction to Music. The only one I really detest is physics though. I am not a math person, and I a convinced Physics is just math cleverly (but thinly) disguised as science.

This is completely unrelated to academia, but I must say I love my roommates. I had to work until about 10:30 and when I got home I went to the door. I dont have a key for the upstairs door for some unknown reason, just the downstairs. So I knock on the door and am greeted by a shot of crown, a beer to wash it down with and a guitar hero guitar.Thank goodness for no classes tomorrow! Only in college can a night like this be had every week.
