Your dinkers?
If you find a normal you think could be hiding something strange and wonderful, what is it you look for? Just your opinon. I just got a male that has a clear belly with what looks like poss pied markers halfway down his belly so I'm keeping him for the long haul I guess. I'll post a picture after I get home today.

Here is one of my dinkers.

I look for different eye color, different head pattern or lots of blushing, out of the ordinary pattern, clear belly, flames and hooks.

Re: Your dinkers?
How sad... I miss my dinkers.
I got rid of 2 male dinkers this year. one had ringer markings and the other had bold white belly with sharp black and white fading. I should have kept him. He could have been a platonium gold glow toffee poss everything morph. = (

Here's my little dinker guy, I loved his black black eyes and the ring around them. I thought his belly was odd and he's "blurry" looking. His iridescence is weird too. Hard to explain.

I really like yours too. I have thought about getting a "Blurry" ball a couple of times. You see them occationally in the classifieds.
Good looking snake though kind of has a granite pattern in the saddles also.

Re: Your dinkers?
These are a couple of ch, so who knows what surprizes lay within.
first is exotica, a female. I kept her back for her pattern, and blushing as well her belly has some interesting marking near the tail.

Here's mine.
She's a lot bigger now. I really like her flames.

All of you have some really nice eyecatching dinkers.
I've got a lil 08 girl, she's got a couple nice little hooks, really odd pattern (like a cinny, with the connected heads and whatnot, hardly any alieneyes, blahblah), and her eyes are a light gold-green at the top and fade to a dark green towards the bottom..I would take a pic but she's a freaking devil and she already tagged my nose today, I don't feel like holding her anymore right now :taz:

Stupid question...What's a dinker?

Not a stupid question at all. A dinker is just an unproven trait or appearance. Something you're just "dinkin" around with, hoping it will prove to be genetically inheritable.

Re: Your dinkers?
Dang, I didn't notice this thread before. I posted one of mine the other day in one of the other forums. Here is the link.

I just gotta say though that all of yours are better then mine. But what the heck, no matter if it proves or not, it's always fun. Right?

She definitely looks similar to her dad. Sorry to hear you lost the other female. Looks like it might be an interesting project. Good luck with it.

Re: Your dinkers?

Re: Your dinkers?
Nothing outrageous, just a real nice jet black animal with nice gold contrast, and with a few hook markers.

She's a great feeder, so will be up to size in no time, she's approximately 450g now.

Re: Your dinkers?
The nice thing about normals is that they are so variable.

My thought exatly... all the snakes in this thread are beautiful, no doubt. But to be honest, they all look somewhat 'normal' to me :O

Agreed. I don't mess with dinkers myself. I would rather spend money and time on genetics that i know will produce offspring with the same genetics.

thats why they are dinker.
normal looking-ish.
yellowbellys, fires, are all semi normal looking.
there are many normal looking balls, but thats why they are dinkers

As do most of us with Dinkers. Dinkers are just a little extra fun on the side so to speak. I would probably never over run my collection with dinkers there are too many proven morphs that I have or want to work with. But if something catches my eye with an inexpensive "Normal" then why not get it and play around, you might end up with something crazy in the end.

And that's the beauty of it. They ARE normal until proven otherwise, and if they don't prove otherwise? It's no big deal because you started out with normals to begin with... It's like playing the lottery.

That's boring. I've got plenty of projects that I'm breeding with proven genetics and have produced some nice morphs. But to me it's more fun messing around with the unknown and trying to produce a look that nobody else has seen yet. A look that's all your own.
There's nothing wrong with doing it both ways, the least that can happen is that you'll produce some more normals and whats wrong with that?

I agree that normals can and do exhibit a tremendous degree of variance. We have a good many morphs in our collection now, but I still enjoy the diversity displayed by our normals.
I understand not everyone is interested in making the investment of time and energy necessary to work with an unproven animal, especially when the end result of years of effort may be that the animal is just a normal.
I am thankful there are some breeders willing to take a chance on some of these "normals", as there are several morphs we now enjoy that are the fruits of those efforts.
Here's a couple of pics of a proven morph that IMO looks more normal than many of the animals pictured in this thread. I wonder how many times Vin Russo heard "it's just a normal", when he started that project. Heck, he probably still hears it, 'cause you know, it really does look like a "normal".
