    Doubtful Lineanage of Yellowbelly
Hi, I'm relatively new to the hobby and was thinking of getting a pair of yellowbellies. Unfortunately after looking through the hunter's guide for YB it now makes me a bit doubtful of these that are currently being sold. I'm not sure from whom they were originally from.

This first is the male YB. The belly does have the granite speckling usually found in YB but the side do lack the high-yellow coloration.

This female has the same granite speckling on the belly but lacks the dorsal blushing.

I know the best way to get these YB is to get them from reputable breeders and proven lines but these are currently what we have available.

Unfortunately i do not have the animals with me, but I've seen the bellies and they are consistent with a YB belly

I'm generally horrible at recognizing YBs, but for some reason I seem to have more luck looking at the dorsal than at the belly. Those look like YBs to me.

I will agree with everyone. They do look like YB from the top to me also. I don't know how to explain it but the sides are what really say YB to me. Belly shots would be helpful but I see your post that you do not have the snakes.
As for the Dorsal blushing you refer to, not neccesary to be YB. YB vary greatly. And here is a pic of my guy just to throw that in there for ya.
Notice the Similarity of the "Flames" on the sides with the animals you are questioning

they look yb to me belly shots would be nice.
ask about the linage and specifically ask if its from an proven ivory line

    The male definitely looks YB.

Can`t you just ask for a lineage on the snake?

I do not purchase a snake if the person cannot trace it for me. But that is just me. A co dom or dom that definitely is what it is said to be... then your choice.

If you`re buying a morph (or selling) then pics of the entire snake are sort of mandatory. Different things are attractive about the various morphs to different people. Especailly when there is such variance not only between morphs, but within each morph as well.

Edit: As well I would ask if the snake is a proven genetic YB. Does the person selling it know for sure it came from a line of genetically reproducable YBs. Seems like an obvious question to ask, but I have asked it at enough shows about hypos and ybs only to find out that "we think this is genetic... but we don`t know... but look at those markings!!!" (phantom hypo anyone?)

I'm planning on buying the snakes and have personally seen the pair. Both are 200+g so no breeding yet. As far a lineage comes in, I can only trace it up to the last 2 owners, both of which did not breed the snake. Allegedly they came from a proven line, but AFAIK all that can be fiction.
