Baby mojave painting

In my last post I said I wanted to do a painting of a ball python. I decided on an old photo of one of my mojave hatchlings and got started. I'm about 7-8 hours in, probably 1/2 finished. Here are some progress pics.

I have to get out the detail brush and do the scales and such, then give it a blue backround.

Thanks for the comments. I'll be sure to post the finished pictures. At the rate I've been going it should be soon.

It took a little longer than I planned, but it's just about finished. I have some touching up to do, so I'm going to put it away for a few days to get a fresh look at it later. The color is pretty close to being accurate after adjusting the levels in photoshop, but my camera and photo skills don't do it justice. I think I need to buy a scanner.

I'm so jealous of all the mad skills people have here! That's freaking awesome!

Thanks for the comments. I had a lot of fun with this one, and have plans to do some more herp paintings. I just need to get them started before my motivation runs thin and I move on to another hobby.

Thanks, Lena. What do you want for a scanner? I just got a large format inkjet, so I definitely need to get a scanner to make some prints of these.

You know, the first two pics you posted would actually make a real nice black & white or gray tattoo.

That's an amazing painting. What was the painting done on? How big is it?

Thanks, but a grayscale version of the finished painting would look better as a tattoo.

Thanks, it's acrylic paints on 8 1/2 x 11 100# Cougar matte. I picked up a few more canvases for my next herp paintings. I'm thinking about trying tempera paints for some more vivid animals, like that artist at the bigger shows uses (does anyone know his name?). His work is awesome, and the temperas really do things like panther chameleons justice wih their crazy colors.

Quite cool! I love seeing the progression of the piece. I'm quite impressed by the finished product (let just say I'm not at all artistic!)
