**Breeders** How do you ID your animals?
What methods do you guys use to ID your animals? Like Date? Name, etc..
Being in the military, we use LOT numbers, which include Date, manufacturer, etc.. Some examples would be nice please.
Like, for my BP Vincent, i'd do something like this.
BP07JUL001
Ball Python, 2007, July, number of snake produced that year. I dunno something along those lines.
What do you use?

Names...
Stickers...
Photos with names and stickers in case I need a reference.
Mostly I recognize them though... Joel can't understand how I do it.
I'm just... addicted :D

Re: **Breeders** How do you ID your animals?
Example: J&K-2009-23-06
J&K = Our name
2009 = Year of production
23 = Clutch number
06 = Snake number
Behind the clutch card is also a drawing of the snake's neck pattern. Neat little idea I started using after I saw RDR use it. Didn't use it just because he was using it but more so because it's an easy way to point a clutch card back to the snake if the card ever gets accidentally misplaced like it has for me in the past. It's easier than going into the database and tracking the snake. As for management I use the Degei Husbandry Database.

Only in Degei, but my computer crashed, so until I can get it up and running again, no.

Re: **Breeders** How do you ID your animals?
On the top of their name they are ID as followed
Morph – Year – Sex
Les_2008F1 ----> 2008 Female Lesser 1
Nor_2006F4 ----> 2006 Normal Female 4
Pin_2007M1 ----> 2007 Pinstripe Male 1
I think you get the idea so once showing in the Degei software I use they are organised by Morph, year and sex.
For the hatchlings that I don’t plan on keeping it goes like this
Year - Clutch number - Morph - Sex
2008Cl4_Bla_Pas_M2 ----> 2008, Clutch 4, Black Pastel Male 2

Re: **Breeders** How do you ID your animals?
I take a picture of every snake showing the dorsal pattern~ print it on a 4X6 card, put all the info for that snake such as hets, parentage, if I bred it or purchased it, who I purchased it from, contact info for the seller, purchase price~ basically everything on that card. Then I label that card with a number showing the type of snake BP for Ball Python or C for Corn snake, the year I made the card (which is the year I obtained the snake~ could be it's birth year or it could be the year I purchased it) and an individual snake number beginning with 01 at the beginning of each year. Such as~ the 23rd baby hatched last year is
BP-08-23
But the pied Heather produced and sent to me came in after all my babies had hatched~ she is
BP-08-58
I put all those cards into a file box~ put a sticker with the snakes number on the snakes tub, take another 4X6 card and write the snakes number ontop of it. I hang the new card on the front of the rack in front of the snakes tub and mark down feedings/shed/breedings/eggs~ whatever~ on that card. As each feed card fills up I file it in the box behind the 4X6 ID card for that snake. Before I sell a snake~ or if I ever worry I've put someone away in the wrong place I pull that snakes ID card and compare the picture taken as soon as I got the snake (or right after hatch) to the snake to ensure it IS the correctly IDed snake.
Sounds more complicated than it is. Making the ID cards is a pain~ but once they are made~ it's easy to keep track and double check that no one gets mis-IDed

Re: **Breeders** How do you ID your animals?
I guess my system is complicated but here goes.
I tag the tubs with a keyring thats hold a tag. The keyring states either male or female and then a number/letter combo like this.
F01NOR
This means Female, first one I've bought, and normal genetics.
You can cross ref that to my log book and see when the animal was born, weight, eatting schedule, etc.
M35SPI
Would mean Male, 35th bought and Spider genetics.
Etc. Mainly use what works best for you.

Well, I'm not a breeder.. lol. Just doing some research. But it's important research. Thanks for the information though.

Re: **Breeders** How do you ID your animals?
Each of my snakes has a individual name. I never could get the barcodes to print on the snakes skin properly, and then of course they would shed again, then it was sticking them BACK into the printer..
It was just a mess, so I stuck with naming them. They have pics with their names in the computer so I can always ID them based on pattern if necasary.

These are really helpful here, and I'm noticing patterns, no matter who's IDing what. Keep 'em coming if you have a different style than already posted.

Re: **Breeders** How do you ID your animals?
Ones I don't produce are simple.
Pastel M1 [morph, sex, number(if I have more of that morph)]
Yellowbelly M1
Spider F1
Ones I do produce, just off the top of my head.
08-3 Normal F2
08: year born/breeding year
3: clutch number
Normal: morph/ pattern
F: sex
2: number of that sex, which coincides with the morph/pattern

Re: **Breeders** How do you ID your animals?
I'm trying to create a standard Auto ID system for herps. In the future i'll make something where you can create your own scheme, but I was wondering if something like this could suffice for a little bit.
Say you have a 2007 Albino Male Ball Python, your 30th of the year.
BPM-2007ALB030
Or a 2004 Normal Leopard Gecko Female, 54th of the year
LGF-2004NOR054
Does that seem like something easy to read? I was thinking of throwing in clutch number, but that'd make it really long. Maybe i'll throw that in there, but at the moment I'm going to leave it out. What you guys think?
