Anyone watch Bizarre Foods?
Ok I know this show has been around for a little while but hey, I don't watch a lot of TV. Fun show to watch if you ask me, Andrew Zimmern does a great job. I like how he really seems to love learning about the different cultures. I haven't seen too many episodes, really should get to watching more.
So my question for yall is: Did you ever see something on that show that looked appetizing to you, that you never thought could possibly look appetizing? Or, something that looked so revolting that you couldn't believe it was even on the show...?
I saw a show where the only thing he could not bear to swallow was... a fruit. Amazing how things turn out huh?
Re: Anyone watch Bizarre Foods?
I have seen lots of things in both of those categories but I can;t remember exactly what they were now. It really is a great show. That and Dirty Jobs.
Re: Anyone watch Bizarre Foods?
I love that show it is disgustingly delicious!!!!!
Re: Anyone watch Bizarre Foods?
The only thing I remember looking good was the cashew nuts. I'd really like to try the apple too. (If you saw the episode you know what I'm talkin about)
The worst was the warm goat/lamb blood. Can't remember. They make blood cake/pudding a few times and it makes me turn the channel. I really like the show.

Are you talking about that one stinky fruit that they catch from nets as it falls from the tree?
If so that does look quite disgusting.
I really don't know about the rotten shark meat or the fermented fish that they don't eat for years and years :puke:
I thought it would be interesting to try some insects he always claims are quite delicious, like crickets and what not, I don't know about the gooey grubs and stuff though.

THe stinky fruits called durian.
Re: Anyone watch Bizarre Foods?
I think one of the most repulsive things he ever ate was the Filipino delicacy called Balut. For anyone who doesn't know what it is a 15 day old, fertilized duck (or chicken) egg with a nearly-developed embryo inside that is boiled and eaten in the shell. The broth surrounding the embryo is sipped from the egg before the shell is peeled and the yolk and young chick inside can be eaten.
I have a strong stomach but I was queasy after watching that.
Re: Anyone watch Bizarre Foods?

(Sorry if I screw this up) But what about the one where he eats... I believe pig intestines... that have been allowed to fester and ferment in a jar for several months!?
That one really grossed me out, I mean food is food, but when is it, uh, rotten? :weirdface
Re: Anyone watch Bizarre Foods?
Oh and I would definitely like to try the bee covered salad he had someplace in Asia (I forget where exactly). Those bees looked crunchy :D
Re: Anyone watch Bizarre Foods?
Love that show - that and Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations. There was one episode where he and Andrew Zimmer went to a restaurant in NYC and tried (and liked) some bizarre foods. I forget the ethnicity of the restaurant, I only remember that it was Middle Eastern of some sort.
Stinky tofu was the episode I remember that he couldn't get down. Actually, there are several - another one in another Middle Eastern country where it used rotting meat and eggs that he just couldn't get down either.
Re: Anyone watch Bizarre Foods?
OOOOOOO I forgot the episode where he eats snake penis....
And all other kinds of penis that episode was friggen gross!
Re: Anyone watch Bizarre Foods?
I love that show!!!
To the people who say they would like to eat the bugs, the Crickets are good and scorpion and chocolate grasshoppers and ants are all good.
scorpion has a VERY fruity twang to it
When i was in Culinary school we made all these "unique" foods and most were great. Durian is VERY stinky but tastes great.
Re: Anyone watch Bizarre Foods?
I watch that show and get some great culinary ideas. Aparently you can fry anything! lol. Seriously though, it's one of my favorite shows. The only thing that makes me queasy is the rancid meat. Other than that, i would try all the rest. And i cant wait to attempt Durian Fruit. Smells like vomit and feet, tastes like sweet vomit and feet.
Re: Anyone watch Bizarre Foods?
I've never seen it... don't think I could. I have zero tolerance for weird / gross food. Just reading this thread made me queasy.
