Morph List
Hey everyone,
I am *hoping*....really only hoping, I probably wont be able to get one....but just maybe...I can pick up my first morph this year. If so, I want to be ready and try and narrow down what I might want.
I wanted to get a list together of the more common morphs, and also what your advice would be for potentially breeding them later.
I am leaning more toward codom morphs, although albinos are an option as well...I am not sure of any other dom/rec morphs that I really like within my price range, but feel free to throw out whatever.
So....just to get started (if you have any to add, please copy/paste this list and tack on your addition)
Pastel
Cinnamon
Mojave
Black Pastel
Spider
Yellowbelly
Fireballs/Sulfur
Albino/Het Albino
Lesser
Butter
If anyone happens to be good with pricing, feel free to let me know ~what each morph went for this season...they more or less are least expensive to most expensive ...I think. The ones I had the hardest time pricing were Butters, Lessers, and Sulfur/Fireballs.
Overall, if you have any advice I have specifically asked for, fire away, I am all ears.

Re: Morph List
This isn't the answer your prolly looking for...but get what YOU like...not what we like! ;) I for one like ALL of the morphs you listed.
As for prices...well it all depends on what it's worth to the breeder I suppose. I would browse KS for price ideas...you'll see there how breeder 'X' could be selling a pastel for $75....while breeder 'Y' is selling theirs for $200. They just vary breeder to breeder.
....as I said...prolly not the answer you were looking for, but get what attracts YOU the most. Good Luck and keep us up to date! :):salute:

Prices do not just vary from breeder to breeder. Prices vary for a specific morph based on quality of the animal also. In the end you get what you pay for. Not saying that there are not good deals out there but you really have to search for a good deal on a great animal.... you can find a "good" deal on an average animal anytime.

...well I think one of us is misunderstanding the other then? I could probably run thru KS right now and pull off ads from 4 different breeders for 08 Pastels and I bet I could find 4 different prices for 08 Pastels...Prices vary breeder to breeder.

Re: Morph List
Allright....focus of the topic was misunderstood.
I just want a big list of morphs, and, knowing that I like everything on the list (relatively equally), what you think would make the best breeding project. Prices are pretty insignificant, at least at the moment, I just threw that in there for the stuff I couldnt find much or any of on KS.

...if you already have a female normal, I would go with a male codom then. Any of the ones listed. It's really hard to say which one would be the 'best' breeding project beings it's all a matter of opinion...

Re: Morph List
Joshua - I think you mis-understood me.... I said prices "do not JUST vary from breeder to breeder"
but you also have to consider other factors do affect the variation of prices. You can get a $50 ugly pastel male or a $100 pretty pastel male. Though if you search and are willing to make an offer on a pretty pastel male you might find a great deal.
Oh a good name!

Well that is a tough one with your list...
There are an unlimited number of combinations you can create from your existing list. So the question is what is your reason for the breeding project?
Do you just want to make a designer morph that you really like, or are you looking more towards what will be the best market value of what you produce?

Re: Morph List
Pinstripes
Womas
Ghosts
Axantics
I think would also fit into your list
Probably the easiest way to get into morphs would be one of the less expensive codom males and a normal female or two. If you have the extra money you could go for a codom x codom.... Pastel and Spider, Pastel and Pin..... Bees and Blasts are gorgeous snakes....

Re: Morph List
Mostly looking for market value right now, since that would help me expand more into more lower end morphs (until I get the list completed), or to get into some mid level/dollar morphs that are just out of the question right now. I can always produce something obscure that I really like later on, whereas prices are just going to keep falling....at the same time though, I would think that some codom morph crosses may be some of the better breeder ideas for both situations.
Also, my female is not breedable weight yet, though maybe next season if I have a male. She is about 1000g right now and off feed for over 2 months. She was 450 grams last May.
One of my options is to stock up on normal females and breed them to codom males, which is pretty high on the list. Another option is to forgo the multiple normal or het/poss het females and go for another codom morph and just produce one good clutch to expand for the next season.

Re: Morph List
I would say the ones at the "top" of my list are Pastel (easily number one, one of my fav morphs in general, and produces some killer combos and super), Spider ( another morph I like, and produces some of the best combos) and a tie between an Albino project and lucy's....probably from lesserxlesser.

Re: Morph List
a few doms:
pinstripe
spider
a few more codoms:
woma
enchi
vanilla

Spider is on the list, and as far as I am concerned, it is codom. I think the super form is lethal.
Pinstripes is one I just never liked, though I do like a few of their combo's...other than that, great adds to the list, thanks.

Re: Morph List
Ok Market Value....
You could get a little bit more expensive codom male and hook him up with several normal females. You then are producing morphs your 1st season that you can SAVE THE ONES YOU LIKE, and sell the rest and re-invest. The other option with your offspring to consider is TRADES. I posted several animals for sale with the extra line " Trades considered " and have ended up with some beautiful snakes just from trades. Honestly I have only paid money for maybe 1/2 my snakes.
If you go with the other option of Codom X Codom you may create fewer snakes but of a higher market value. That in itself though has its draw backs to. The more expensive the snake the smaller the market. There are alot more people out there that can buy a 200-300 dollar snake than people who can buy a 1000-1500 dollar snake. Trade value on the snake would be where you would win with this option. You could turn around and trade a high dollar combo for several base morphs to expand your collection.
I hope I am not making it more difficult just giving you my own perspective on your topic.

Meh....you are but you aren't....you are just saying the same things running through my head for past few days....in almost the exact same way I might add....
I think it is mostly going to come down to what deals I can find. If I can pick up a pastel and spider pair for a good price, will probably do that....if I find a steal on a bunch of norm females....probably go with that.
Biggest issue right now is when I can start producing. I don't want to have to buy all 08 or 09's next season and have to wait another 2 years before I start making a turn-around....by that point, the market value will crash a lot on the combo morphs, and drop at least a little for the lower end codoms.
I wish I could find some ready to breed next season for a good price, that is what my main hope is.

Pastel and Spider
Great starter morphs for breeding project
Relatively inexpensive compared to other morphs but GREAT combo potential
Pastels are used in so many combos It is hard to keep track
Spiders just look at all the different kinds of Bees
I actually have a few Pastels and Spiders in the works already this season. If all goes well ( and it is looking good so far ) I should have 4 clutches of each.

I think I am pretty well decided now that these would be my top two picks for codom morphs....cost effectiveness and my overall desire to have them along with killer combos and utility is great.
Could you pm me some info on your clutches in the making, if you are selling and able to ship that is.

Re: Morph List
I wouldn't worry about what the market values are one the snakes. Or worry about what your turn around will be...you cant predict the market.
I would just get the snake which attracts YOU the most and go from there. If you are doing this for money...you could be setting yourself up for a disappointment...with 1.1 BP's, that's a hobby. Do it for the love of the hobby. Just my opinion tho.

Get your self an '07 or Early '08 male Codom with some size to him....
Big normal females - Tips to find them cheap
1. your local pet shops.... The shops I buy feeders from all know me and I told them I am always looking for large normal females and gave them my phone #. I have got 7 or 8 breeding size females for under $50 each 2 of them I actually got for free
2. Craigslist.com - There are always people on there getting rid of snakes
-
Re: Morph List
Craigslist is a good tip....my local pet shop considers themselves elite....their last sub-adult bp...probably 1200 grams or so, was 200. I can ask, but I am not too hopeful there.
I am definitely in this more for the hobby than for making money...if anything, it would just be nice to produce enough to take the sting out of the wallet to support the hobby. If I make some money, great, but if not, I still get to expand my collection and upgrade my stuff. That is really my goal here, not turning a profit.

I am not really purchasing from the pet shops. They have all been when someone comes in with an unwanted snake and it is something the shop people think I might be interested in they call me with the details and I tell them if I want it or not. If I do then they give that person my info and the deal is between me and that person not me and the shop....
Though I do spend between $75 - $100 a week at my local shop just on feeders so they already have a steady recurring income from me.
-
Re: Morph List
Ahhh....my shop may be more interested in that type of arrangement, but probably only if they were running out of room.
I was in the store about 2 months ago and someone dropped off a BCI...probably about 5 feet, and they immediately took it in and downstairs for quarantine....2 weeks later it shows up in the display but not for sale yet. Apparently it had an RI and hadnt been feeding. Just fed for the 3rd time last week I think....everytime I go in for crix I ask to handle it and they always give me some bs answer....I think it might be a little aggro.
Moral of the story, they are charging 300 for it last time I checked. This is a very mediocre looking, sub-adult female or possibly a small adult male BCI with a ton of speckle. Their CBB BCI's are 130 I think.

It is strange, when I named her, I had not seen the name anywhere on the forums, and had been lurking for a month or so, and now....it is everywhere.
-
Re: Morph List
Yep... Well she has had that name for 4 years now, so I guess we will just have to share.
I have alot of interesting names in my collection actually.
Akio, Isis, Nemesis, Invidia, Calypso, Pandora, Athena, Eleos, Aphrodite, Tethys, Urraco, Jalpa, Miura, Berlinetta, Sigma, Murcielago, Reventon, Xanthias, Widow Maker, Enzo, Cyclops.....
I was on a Theme thing when naming them It started as Ancient Mythological Gods and Figures, it then moved on to different models of exotic sports cars....LOL Don't know why just did.
-
Re: Morph List
From the morphs listed, you are looking at a price range from around 75 - 600 dollars for each morph

Re: Morph List
I don't think you can call any kind of "dibs" on snake names :D
I'm planning on naming my eventual large snake(will it be a boa? blood? I haven't decided yet) "kitty".
I've also seen a few other people with snakes named alice(my BP's name)
and if I ever get a female BEL, I'm obliged to name it Lucille Ball, for the gf and her mom who both love I Love Lucy.
