to breed or not to breed!!!!!
ok we have been plugging in our male spider with our normal 3000 gram girl. they have locked twice but my question is we have a pastel male thats like 550 grams should we try him. and i heard someone on here say they scented one of their males with another ones sperm plug what does that do and should i try it? thanks and let us know if we are pushing him to early.
Re: to breed or not to breed!!!!!
Try it. Since they are both Co-dom, there will be no worries about genetics if the female lays eggs. It'll just be a lottery when the eggs come! :)
Depending on the age of the male Pastel of course...

he is an early 08 male. now is it possible for the pastel and the spider genes to cross i mean is it possible to get a bee from breeding a pastel male and a spider male to a normal girl? and do yall think she is to big for him?

No it is not possible you will have either spider or pastel as well as normals and maybe if you're lucky both, but to produce a bee you need to breed a male spider to a female pastel or a male pastel to a female spider.
Re: to breed or not to breed!!!!!
I have absolutely no experience, but I dont think I agree with being born and being bred in the same year. I would let him grow up and give him a go next season.

i am not going to push him i just know he is off weight and i wanted some input from others
Re: to breed or not to breed!!!!!
Odds are nothing will happen this year, but if you don't try you will never know. Also it might help for breeding the following year if he gets a little exposure this year. We have our early 08 Mojave sharing a girl with our 07 Cinny. The Cinny has definately locked once. The mojave does not seem to have any interest what so ever.
As far as getting a bee goes, it isn't going to happen. Each egg can only be fertilized by one sperm.
Re: to breed or not to breed!!!!!
My original pastel male I got years ago bred at 325 grams and 6 months old with all fertile clutches to the females he bred....right now have a 500 gram pewter breeding that was born early this summer....if they're ready they'll breed...you're not hurting them any....
Re: to breed or not to breed!!!!!
so it wont matter that she is almost 6 times his size?
Re: to breed or not to breed!!!!!
I've personally never had a problem but I can't tell you for certain that nothing would happen. I've had tiny males breed huge females with no problem...just gotta keep a lil eye on them.
Re: to breed or not to breed!!!!!
Pop him and see if he is producing sperm plugs. If he is not then there is no point to pair him with anyone.
I have a few codom males that were hatched this year that are not yet producing plugs and unless they develop in the next few months, they will have to wait until next year.

Re: to breed or not to breed!!!!!
i think im gonna go ahead a give him a try maybe he can get a lil practice for next year.
Re: to breed or not to breed!!!!!
ok i just paired them im only gonna leave him in for like a day or so. im keeping a close eye on them ( WITHOUT BOTHERING THEM ) i just hope she dont hurt my lil buddy.
Re: to breed or not to breed!!!!!
Actually even if they aren't producing sperm plugs being with females and/or other males to entice breeding will sometimes get them started ;)
Re: to breed or not to breed!!!!!
i only put him in for like 24 hours. he is in shed so when he sheds im gonna put it in with her hopefully it will entice my spider to lock up with her again. lol
