feeding your feeders carrots??
ive already made a similar post in the BP husbandry section and got so wierd looks. but i wanna know if anyone has tried feeding there feeders mostly carrots in an attemp to have the beta cartone build up enogh in ur snake to show the charactoristic orange tint ???:P

Re: feeding your feeders carrots??
I'm going to feed mine lettuce to see if I can get some green tint to my snakes :gj:
joking aside, you used some big words, but I don't see how that would work

well its proven fact that if a person eats a hell of a lot of carrots their skin will turn a yellowish orange tint, resembling juandice.... why this happens is becuase of a chemcial called Beta Caratone- makes carrots orange - it will build up in the blood enough to change its colour from red to a wierd orangey colour... over time it turns the skin orangey ... although not considered a deadly disorder apparently an old lady had died due to carotitise .... anyways ive recently read on another forum that its been tried in feeder mice to change a snakes appearence and that it takes months ... im just wondering if anyone here has heard or maybe has tried it

i think blueberries or strawberries would be a better idea ...

I don't recommend feeding them only or mainly carrots. You'd end up with some very underweight and sickly poor feeders.
Also, why in the world would you want to change a ball pythons color this way?

why wouldnt you?... i guess mostly cuz i cant afford a crazy looking morph and this seems do-able ... u mentioned "this way " are there any other ways to change a snakes appearence ?
Re: feeding your feeders carrots??
paint it? XD Remember, the humans that this trick works on are very, very pale in color, so just a little bit of orange can show up as a tint....a dark normal bp? No way!
Re: feeding your feeders carrots??
I dunno about changing anyone's color, but rats and mices sure do love munching on carrots as a treat...=)
I've seen rats fight over the carrot...one will grab it and drag it around the cage - "My carrot! Back off!" :D
Re: feeding your feeders carrots??
well they do have white bellies and mine has some "flames" of white part way up her side

well if i do go thru with this... which wont be for a while lol ... i would most definatly give the mice suppliments to counter act the poor diet
Re: feeding your feeders carrots??
Carotenoids have been shown to improve color expression. The only problem is that there aren't a terribly large amount of red pigments expressed in ball pythons. I can tell you a well rounded diet works wonders on boas though.
I think feeding your rodents only carrots is an awful idea. I feel like you're supplementing for the wrong reasons and are going to end up with not only feeders, but reptiles with metabolic deficiencies, and overall that would be considered inhumane.
If you're going to do something do it right, don't do it half assed to try and get ahead.
