Any comments on Harlequin Wide-Stripe's?
Anyone care to offer opinions on Harlequin Wide-Stripe Ball Pythons?
You like, dislike, show promise, etc?

post pics. these posts get much more responses when someone asks for comments and adds a pic for people to look at :)
Re: Any comments on Harlequin Wide-Stripe's?
I'm pretty darn sure that there is no single gene that causes that pattern to occur.
However I'm quite interested in selective breeding for pattern. Selective breeding really does work, but with something such as pattern, there are so many factors that you can't have drastic changes/improvement over a single generation(unlike selective breeding for a weird mutation, like most animals dubbed "morphs").
There is a great deal of potential for fully striped patterns, just like there is great potential for reduced patterns. However It really does look like whatever causes the stripe in the "wide stripe harlequin" isn't a single mutated gene.

Re: Any comments on Harlequin Wide-Stripe's?
i didnt think that the harlequin was proven yet?
Re: Any comments on Harlequin Wide-Stripe's?
I definitely would not mind having one in my collection-especially a female ;)

As far as I know, harlequins are an unproven trait. They just appear.
I wouldn't mind having a nice looking female, like Becky's. But I wouldn't attempt to breed a male because as far as I know, they are normal.
I remember at a show a couple years back I saw a harlequin running at $500 and the guy admitted he didn't know the genetics behind them. Just thought they were funky normals.

I love your striper Becky....but I hate that my girl wont coil like a normal BP to save her life....shes just being rebellious I guess. Her typical coil looks more like what a 6 foot guy looks like trying to sleep on a 4 foot couch.
Re: Any comments on Harlequin Wide-Stripe's?
Thanks :) I plan on putting her with my Het Ivory male this season and seeing what pops up. Maybe just nice, light YBs, maybe not. :D

Haha- I think our girls came from the same family! My first ball does the same thing. When I got me second ball, a pastel, I was ecstatic to finally hold a balled up snake that was willing to put some effort into his ball!

For what it is worth, even if that snake was a male I would still run it up the flagpole.
Keep us posted:)
