A 40 gallon tank brand new can run from $60-$120 depending on where you get it and the perks that are involved with it. (Screen tops, glass tops, sliding both)
Glass tanks are a bit tricky to get right, but it is possible..

$80+ I think, I'm sure many will tell you here is that you won't be able to stop at just one :), so if considering more, you might want to check into racks

65 bucks for a 40g long breeder at petland discounts if theres one in your area. Tank prices have really come down.

Re: Are they lottsa $$$
check out freecycle or craigslist too. Although lately people around here think their tanks are made of gold.

No offense but 20 dollars for a used 10g isn't that great. I paid 9.99 for a brand new one from petland. But yea craigslist posts used aquarium tanks all the time just make sure to properly disinfect anything you buy from there. For all you know some other type of animal has already died in there and you don't want to take any chances.

No offense taken, but i must reiterate that i also got a 30 gal in great condition. I thought it was a steal. And you are right about disinfecting tanks. i clean them thuroughly with bleach water and let them sit for a few days before i use them.

Re: Are they lottsa $$$
What is the size of the Ball Python do you want to move in a 40 gallons tank? If he is a baby do not bother buying a 40 gallons tanks now, you will not need it before another 2 to 3 years. ;)
Also keep in mind that 30 gallons tank have the same foot print than 40 gallons tank and they are cheaper, the 40 gallons only has more height which is not necessary a 30 gallons has more than enough height already.

Unless it is what is known as a 40 breeder (larger footprint, and the same height as a 30 gal.). This is not a fish tank, as it has a hole in the side, and is designed for reptiles of all kinds.

I guess I should have mentionned I was referring to the commonly found Zilla enclosure ;) http://www.zilla-rules.com/products/critter-cages.htm which in this case is made for reptiles and the 40 gallons and 30 gallons have indeed the same foot print. (Back when it was carried by another company it was known as 40 gallons breeder now just as 40 gallons)

www.craigslist.com
I would advise against a glass tank and go for a standalone tub if I were you. Much easier to clean, control, move etc.
