    Delta shippers
Couple questions for you Delta shippers.

1.) Do you need to become verified to ship reptiles through Delta Dash?

2.) If so, how do you become verified to ship reptiles through Delta Dash?

In order to ship delta dash you have to be a know shipper.
You can call or email the delta cargo office and ask them to send you the forms to get verified.

It takes about 3 months for them to get around to do it. When we got our account we just filled out the paper work and they had a guy from CDL ( a delivery company) come down to have us sign a few papers and make copies of our business licence and tax i.d papers. It is easier to get delta certified than FedEx!

The number you can call for info is the dash # and that is : 1-800-352-2746

All of the pertinent info is above. But, I wanted to ssy that it is easy now, but not when we got certified. Before Delta had contracted people to do the inspections, they used to do it themselves. It took them almost 6 months to get an inspector to our facility.

And having a stranger in your facility is never that much fun...

Kinda off topic, but my Delta Dash inspector came over, checked out the room, confirmed what I was shipping, but then took my phone number without my permission and continued to call and e-mail me for a date for 6 months afterwards..

    Guard yourself..

Funny you say that Heather. The lady that showed up at my place, was so scared of snakes, she never looked at my facility. She just had me sign the paperwork in my home, and left.

And you know whats worse? I never ended up using Delta...

I'm sure I'm no longer certified, and I had to pay for the inspection...

Oh the pains that we go thru...

Delta certs are not hard to get but very time consuming. The inspectors (once they get around to it) come in, look around (even open racks without asking permission) but that's ok he asked me for contact info and left. I ship via UPS overnight for most domestic orders. I did do two Delta orders by request but I just got certified a few months ago so I haven't really had much expierence with them.

I think they charge you $75 to get inspected.
Not sure if they still have the rule but it used to be you had to ship 6 boxes in the fist year or they close your account.

We used to ship 5-6 boxes a week with delta but FedEx is more reliable and a lot cheaper, so unless its a really big order, I prefer FedEx.

    Re: Delta shippers
The fee must be something more recent, as they didn't charge me for the inspection. As for the 6 boxes per 6 month rule, that is just lip service. I shipped one box after I got certified 4 years ago, and my account is still open( as I checked a month ago due to a customer requesting Delta). With all of that said, I preffer not to ship with them, because I had my only fatality ever during shipping in that one shipment that I made with them. They missed the connecting flight in Atlanta, and told my customer he couldn't pick up boxes after hours. I don't like them, and just wanted to share my story. As JnJ said it is too much hassle to go through when FedEx has been more reliable (in my opinion), and Delta's prices have gone through the rof recently. A buddy told me his last box was $118.

I got certified three years ago and it was $50 and some other charge, so the total may have been $75.. I'll have to dig it up.

    Re: Delta shippers
Just got certified they didn't charge me a fee, although they did say a 6 box min. per month. I doubt I'll be able to do 6 a month especially at their prices but it's nice to have none the less.

    Re: Delta shippers
At $110 -$118 per shipment its not worth shipping with delta unless its a very large order and you can ship it priority first.

Shipping FedEx we can ship a double stack (2 boxes taped together) of the biggest boxes they make : 29"x16"x9" from Maine to California for $112 and they only have about an xtra 5-6 hours of travel time than delta does, but go directly from here to Memphis instead of here to Boston then Atlanta then to the customer.

Just not worth it any more....

    Thanks for all the info.

The only reason I was joggling the idea of using them is that I heard they are the only one's who guarantee live arrival. I know FedEx doesn't, which is what I usually ship through.

That's a laugh. Have an animal killed in shipping with Delta, and try to get a penny out of them. They never gave me a cent when I lost a $3000 animal (even though the box was insured for the standard $750).

I just filled out the online form a couple of weeks ago (have not been contacted yet), and the fee is $60 (application fee. But it stated that it may be charged. I have not paid anything so far).
