What's your opinion? Spider Balls high or low white?
I've noticed a lot of people prefer the high white Spider balls, but I'm really leaning the other way. I think the high whites look....sort of dirty, is the only way I can describe it. Is there a reason people like the high white or is it all personal opinion? I've got a male NERD Pastel and I'm looking to purchase a female Spider by this fall. I'm sure you know where I'm going with this :)
So I have two questions:
Do you prefer high or low white Spiders?
and
Should I get a high or low white Spider to breed for Bublebees?
I know it's all my opinion, but would it make a difference when making Bublebees?
-
Re: What's your opinion? Spider Balls high or low white?
I like high white myself. I don't know the effect difference between the two for making Bumblebees

Re: What's your opinion? Spider Balls high or low white?
Ooo yay!!! There are a couple low white lovers!!! I was afriad everyone was going to call me a freak for liking them better :D I caught some flack for admitting to not liking Albinos, but I really do like the low low contrast albinos.

Re: What's your opinion? Spider Balls high or low white?
I prefer high white in Spiders and bees and I was lucky enough to hatch both a high white spider and a high white be this year. (Female who produced them is high white)
What matter is what YOU like best.

Ok, I've got another question, or favor to ask. Can you or anyone show me high and low white bees???

Re: What's your opinion? Spider Balls high or low white?
By saying a high white spider you mean the freckles on the sides and white stomach? I guess the rule is the more white on a Spider produces better bees when crossed with a Pastel? I've crossed my Spider with a Pastel this year for the first time and thought I'd ask.

Yep, the high white Spiders have white that goes to about the middle of their body. Maybe your thinking more of low white, where they just have some freckles up the side. I'll try to find some pictures....
Oh and good luck with that clutch!!! It will be awesome I'm sure!!!

Re: What's your opinion? Spider Balls high or low white?
I like em high... I held off for two years on getting one till I found one I liked.
High white sides, high gold color... thats my favorite in a spider.
But again, that is just a personal preference.

Re: What's your opinion? Spider Balls high or low white?
Ok I found a couple.
Here's a low white spider I found on davisconstrictors.com , I would love to have this one:

And what I would consider a high white, although, it could have more white:

Re: What's your opinion? Spider Balls high or low white?
I vote high white, cuz I think it adds to the Spiders uniqueness.
-
Re: What's your opinion? Spider Balls high or low white?
Thank you! That's an excellent example of a high white spider!!!
I'm not sure what I would call her either, do you know if she was from a high or low white spider by chance?
-
Re: What's your opinion? Spider Balls high or low white?
Big fan of high whites myself :)
-
Re: What's your opinion? Spider Balls high or low white?
Definitely like 'em both, but high white is gorgeous.

Re: What's your opinion? Spider Balls high or low white?
Here is my high white- and I will be making bees with him next year :gj:

I like the low whites too, but I have heard that the high-white, less specked spiders make cleaner bees- less "dirt".

Is that a paradox bee? Cool-looking!

High white! Nuff said.

It has taken me a very long time to find the right high white spider. I find it very important to spend the time on animals that very so much, and to find the right one. Ball pythons are not like cornsnakes that have a set pattern and uniformity. Balls are really busy and there is no one alike, so oyu must take your time picking the right one.

Re: What's your opinion? Spider Balls high or low white?
I prefer low - i like the spider golds and I feel like the white mucks with them and is too much stuff going on for one snake - like it's gaudy.
Some of those really striking whites are impressive though - and i'm not sure if i feel the same way about high-white bees as i do about spiders. Does the high-white stuff affect other spider crosses too? I'd be disappointed in high white on a cinnabee.
Thinking out loud here. Truth is i love them all, i just prefer lows :)

Same here, that's how I feel about high-white. I personally love low-white Spiders, however, I love high-white Bees. Lol. The high-white looks alot nicer on the Bees, and in my opinion it seems to blend better than high-white on Spiders.

Re: What's your opinion? Spider Balls high or low white?
Whew, so im not the only crazy person who would rather have a low white. I do think it looks cleaner to just have the black and tan. Not that I don't like those high whites but as far as my tastes go I just wanted one that was a clean black and tan. I'm sure I'll have a good example of both one day, but for my first I'm going to go with a low white

Re: What's your opinion? Spider Balls high or low white?
I have both types of spider; my low white female is beautiful, since it has golden sides with white 'pixels' here and there, but I find my high white male truly awesome. So, I vote for the high white...
-
Re: What's your opinion? Spider Balls high or low white?
I didn't vote - I used to be a low white fan, until I saw high whites in person. The high white is visually stunning in person. That said, I have both, and I'm leaning now more towards high white.

Re: What's your opinion? Spider Balls high or low white?
You know I got high whites and low whites and I'll tell ya I just like Spiders. I think spiders are like Jelly Bellys you look long enough and you find one you like. :D

I really don't care either way. My Spider is very high white & I love her just the way she is :D, but I don't know if I would go out of my way to find high/low white.
-
Re: What's your opinion? Spider Balls high or low white?
I'm gonna go with high white, but I care more about how much bright yellow a spider has than the white. I would think a more yellow spider makes more vibrant bees, just as a lemon pastel produces a higher yellow bee than a regular pastel.
-
Re: What's your opinion? Spider Balls high or low white?
High white all the way for me. I like my spiders to be high white, high gold and no spots.
-
Re: What's your opinion? Spider Balls high or low white?
High white for Bumblebees, low white for Lesserbees. Both high white or low white Spiders are a good choice it's all personal preference.
-
Re: What's your opinion? Spider Balls high or low white?
Would it be fair to say that if you like low-white spiders, you'd probably really like woma bps? They're so spider-like in pattern, and seem very much like low-white spiders to me.

 That's what I thought when people started chiming in!!! I REALLY like the low white spiders. And you and the other person hit the the nail on the head, the white dirties up their gold.

jpman78 just sent me a PM telling me to check out woma's. I LOVE woma's but last I checked they were awfully expensive, but they must not be as bad anymore.

Re: What's your opinion? Spider Balls high or low white?
I'm going to be picking out a spider at the next show I go to, but I figure I'll just get the one that calls out to me. The color and pattern have to be considered too. I want a spider where color, pattern and amount of white all comes together just right. I think high white looks better on a spider with a less busy pattern, but if the spider has a busier pattern, or darker color, I prefer low white.

I read somewhere that womas at one point were referred to as the "poor man's spider".. I haven't seen any for sale recently so maybe that was many years ago, spiders do seem to have become widely bred so perhaps that description is no longer even close to accurate.

Re: What's your opinion? Spider Balls high or low white?
To me, spiders aren't so much about the amount of white, but about the amount of black. I prefer a spider with greatly reduced black. One that has kind of a barbed wire look going down the back with no black spots.

I so very much agree!
I LOVE our spider... reduced black with a super even light tan color that looks like ultra fine leather... no "messy" splotches (my opinion only of course). White goes almost halfway up but it fades gently into a little yellow to fade right into the tan for a very smooth transition. I don't know if he's low or high white - he looks like he is midway between the two. Here's a pic of him in October. Sorry, I don't have a good camera. I just used my cellphone.

We have a pastel too. I wasn't planning on any breeding at all - strictly personal pets - but I guess with this super pretty spider I'm obligated to get them to mate for a bumblebee. hah!

I've always loved Woma's but I definitely don't think they are the poor man's Spider anymore. I've been combing the web, and they seem to be running about $400! :O
