JCP setup!

Herpstat PRO. Greatest tstat w/o a doubt. Controls 4 cages! Right now I have it on the JCP cage, my BP cage, and the light for the JCP cage. :D

The humidity has been 65%-70% for almost a week after I sprayed it down once :banana:

looks great, i love to see people putting some effort in to the asthetics of caging... i currently keep everyone on newspaper and everything's just real sterile, but this spring i'm making the switch.
interesting that you have the heat panel up top, don't see that too often. does he often bask under it? do you know what temps that thing puts out underneath it?

Where else would you put the rhp? During the summer the temperature of the shelf is around 90 degrees, but I have it on a thermostat. And yes, he basks under it very often.

good point i guess... most people i know just use the heat tape though and go for belly heat, so when i think of radiant heat i don't think of it efficiently projecting downwards.

im using a RHP and the heat projects fine. i have a 2' tall cage and floor temps stay stable at around 82.

great setup! i too like the more natural looking cages.

A heat panel is a lot different from a radiant heat panel. They "create" heat just like the sun, and they heat the air and objects too, which then in turn radiate heat back into the air. It also heats the ground quite well, so it's almost a heat lamp (w/o the low humidity issues) and an UTH in one.

Please do not take offense but........propaganda. Heat is heat and it all reduces humidity. Light bulbs radiate heat. I've used everything and heat panels are overrated and even more overpriced. Just my opinion.

You really think so?

I just like heat panels because they heat a big area very well w/o any hot spots, and because they last for 35+ years, and because they're the only heat source I have to use and they can be on at night too. :banana:


I don't like UTHs because I like to use bark as substrate, and the amount of substrate really affects the temperature, so I have to check it everyday if there's not too much substrate covering the UTHs.

RHPs are just my thing. :P

I'm one of a few who think so. Like I said, it's just my opinion. The cost for a radiant panel for my cages would be around $100. My bulbs are around $1 ea. and last about 8 months with 12 hours of light per day. I've seen them gutted and they are nothing more than a heat cable, or heat tape, with insulation on one side to "radiate" heat to the other side.

My only other argument is that snakes don't get an 85 degree basking spot at night in nature. I know living in a cage is not natural, but why not try to duplicate nature to the best of our abilities. I don't give my chondros any night heat at all and my room in the winter gets down to 65-68.

Again, I've tried them and I think they are overrated and too expensive when compaired to other alternatives. And as mentioned in another thread, the largest producer of chondros and emeralds in the U.S. uses only lights for heat, with no night heat.

Use what works best for you and more importantly, your animals. :)

I suppose it's just personal preference, but I really prefer RHPs.

I don't have a lot of money (I'm only a student) so I have to save for months to get a new snake. I just think it's worth the money to get RHPs.

I'm getting a divided AP cage, and I was planning on just using one RHP to heat both sides of the cage, but instead I had to buy two smaller ones. :(

Lot more money but I'll do it nonetheless.

For light, btw, I get fluorescent light fixtures. It really makes the cage look a lot more beautiful :banana:

That guy who produces the largest amount of CBB GTPs and ETBs has some pretty goofy set ups to be honest. I remember expecting a lot and it was very simple. Simple works best in most cases though and he seems to be doing great. I couldn't be happier with my new PNGxbiak.
