    Triple Het's in the making.
I didn't know what to put to this Genetic Stripe female so I thought hey Triple het's. Here is my Caramel Glow male having his way with her. She took last year off so I am hoping for a good clutch this year from her. Bring on the Triple het's.

Pat you might want to ask Chris that question. He will tell you how meticulous I am in my snake room.

Damn Brock, after viewing all the replies you need to either A) open up a flooring store or B) a carpet cleaning business. Either way, once you do make sure you send all them snakes my way :gj:

Fantastic pairing Brock! Can't wait til you can breed those triple hets together...oh geez, just did the math...each egg would only have a 1.5625% chance of getting all 3 homozygous traits. Good luck!

That is one of the best genetic strips I have ever seen. Nice clean black strips on the side of the dorsal strip that doesn’t wave too much, and there is no black going into the dorsal strip either!

The Carmel Glow isn’t too bad either.

Lets just hope you hit that 1.5% in a few years!

Re: Triple Het's in the making.
Well, if you don't try it you have a 0.0% chance (or at least close to it).

Glad to see someone going for triple recessive hets. When you breed those triple hets together the chance of each egg holding a complete normal (not even het for any of the three) is also only 1 in 64 so you have to look at the glass half full side too. Each egg has only a 27/64 (42%) of not being at least one visible morph (i.e. less than half the clutch on average should look normal).

I can't wait to start working with quad hets where the chance of a non visible morph hatching from an egg is only 81/256 (32%). You could produce an incredible variety of babies from those eggs which each have over 2 times as much chance of having a morph than a normal on your way to that 1 in 256 quadruple homozygous. Realistically you would probably get there first by breeding the best of the multiple homozygous possible hets together but as long as ball pythons live you could perhaps get hundreds of eggs out of a quadruple het pair eventually and hit the quad the old fashioned way. And having 1.2 or 1.3 quadruple hets will double or triple your odds and give you enough variety to fill out an extensive price list.

Re: Triple Het's in the making.
First of, great pairing! Good luck with it

Second, if it's 1.5% to hit a caramel glow stripe when breeding triple hets together, whats the % if you were to breed quadrupel hets?

Re: Triple Het's in the making.
When breeding quadruple hets together the 1 in 256 chance per egg of hitting the quadruple homozygous is about 0.4%. However, the point I was trying to make is that you would still have a lot of fun with the HUGE variety expected in each clutch where each egg has twice the chance of hatching at least one visual morph as it does of hatching a normal looking quadruple possible het. If I’m figuring right there would be ten (4!) kinds of morphs and morph combinations possible from the 68% chance to be visual morphs. You could have big clutches with no two morphs the same.

Re: Triple Het's in the making.
That would be pretty awesome hatching out 10 snakes and not having a single one being the same visual morph!
