Depends on YOUR goals, what YOU like and what YOU wish to produce first.

I don't know your current situation so it is hard to say. I would look into a male hypo myself, but the reward is long term with this situation. Also how old is your female pastel? If she is still young you may want to look at getting a spider female right now and then the following year getting a proven breeder male pastel. Then you can breed the male pastel to both and get your bee and your super pastel and later take a swing at the killer bee. Cinnies are also a nice option in which a male can be gotten for under $350. Also remember you can negotiate with breeders and even though they have a snake listed for more than you have in your budget they will sometimes work with you. Some hobby breeders are really trying to move out some base morphs right now as they are by products (to put it bluntly) of double, triple, and more gene combos they are trying to make as they are not needed for future projects and another mouth that has to be fed.

    Re: what to get?
well my female pastel is an early 08, i think like early april born. I want be able to breed her next year. and i am only fourteen at the moment, so i cant exaclty gett a ton of snakes so im thinkin of stayng really small scale like max out until i move out at like 2-3 clutches. and parents are an issue as well im not sure if i can even convince them to let me get 2 more snakes. they're response to a request is always "You don't need more snakes!" and i dont see why they object, as it really doesnt effect them except for the electric bill. and they cant use that as an excuse because my dad uses so much electricity on his crazy electronices and computers. the nly argument they make that makes any sense is the one about what im going to do when i got to college. they said they would take the tegu and the turtle and im greatful for that. but they WONT take snakes. what would you guys say i should do when i go to college, can you bring a snake rack? or pets at all?

tell your mom and dad you dont smoke or do drugs as a hobby like some teens, and if you dont play hockey tell them you may start, lol its way more expensive then your hoby that is teaching you to be responsible and accontable for another life. I think at 14 thats great. now what to get, I just posted a poll regardig a lessor or albino i went with the lesser. Get what you like and what will get you to the goals you have. Another good option would be more bucks. Is a Bee you could get pastels super pastel killer bees, spiders and normals that would be a big bang for your bucks.

    Re: what to get?
Thanks Kjay, that's really good advice. Yeah, a bee would be amazing, but it is a little out of my price range. I'm thinking a spider at the moment, just because it's something different that I don't already have. But we'll see what happens. But any advice on what to do when I go to college, or if they allow pets?

Depending on if you are going to a store, a show or ordering off the internet.
You can usually get yellow bellies, some cinnamons, black pastel, or a pastel/spider/mojave that is het for something else as well.

by the time you ready to buy your next one a bee will be affordable for you in my opinion. college is 4 years away. you may make some good friends who enjoy the hobby also near you who would take care of your snakes till you done school. The best thing you can do is stick to the college plan and get the job you want and career then you can buy what ever you want.

As much as I'd like to think I could aford bee by the April new England reptile expo. I highly doubt I will be able to, what do they run for now like $1000? And actualy, I am starting to meet other people in the hobby, for example I recently started volunteering at NERD and my advisor's husband is a herpotolegist / herpoculturist.

You know what, you only have one life to live, live it to the fullest, if that life includes animals no matter what they are, you will find a way, for yourself and for them. Do what your heart tells you, trust what your heart tells you.

    get a spider.

im was in the same dillema as you.. i got a male pastel. then i can decide whether to get another pastel a female. (thinking in the future, ill breed pastel x pastel = more pastel) or another different morph.

i was advice to get a differnet morph, as you'll feel go to have 2 balls & a different morph rather than 2 snake & 1 morph.

in the end.. i got a female pinstripe.

That is not a good way to go about it to your parents...

It took me several years to get just one snake, and it quickly grew from there. Do you pay for everything? I mean everything.

    Re: what to get?
Get what makes you happy and what you're going to enjoy! If you like pastels go for a pastel, if you like spiders and bumblebees go for a spider and try for bees in a year or two. I think you may be better off going with a female for right now though. Remember it takes a while to get a female up to breeding size (at least a year and a half) but most males will be ready to breed at about 6 months.
It's all about what you would like though. Have you seen pewters? IMO they are just an awesome combo and you could try for them in a year or two if you got a cinnamon male :D. But yeah it's all about what you love!

    Re: what to get?
Its hard to say without knowing what your goals are.

Me? I'd get a spider because I think bees are just the best lookin snakes.

When you get up and have to clean / feed / care for the snakes what do you want to see?
