Which caramel lines are compatible?
Just curious as to which caramel albino lines are compatible? How many different lines are there out there? Is there a breeder or two who consistently work to outcross stock to minimize or eliminate kinking problems?
Thanks!
Re: Which caramel lines are compatible?
Hate to say it but i think that they all are prown to kinking to some degree but as i am most often i may be wrong
Re: Which caramel lines are compatible?
I understand that, but surely there is someone outcrossing the heck out of their lines rather than breeding sib to sib, to minimize this.

Most likely so I think as well Tim. :( Common thought thus far seems to be: breed Het to Het, outcross into different lines, and incubate at 86-87 degrees -- and incorporate any, and all, lucky "mojo" to which you have access. I am old school and therefore use a rabbit's foot and a penny I rub them both before and after every Caramel lock. ;):gj:
I am working with a SK Mohave Het Caramel male who will be covering Nerd line double hets for Glow and a few SK Hets. I also have an Upscale Caramel that I am breeding to some codoms this season. The plan is to work the Upscale line Caramel into the Nerd and SK down the road.
I'll make sure to post results after the season -- even the train wrecks if there is any...where is that rabbit's foot. ;)

Yes i know the feeling I have a nice robust Caramel male over 400 grams and just over 6 months old and he is a permanent pet because i bought him as a kinked Caramel and have decided i dont need to work with Caramels that bad. I will be around long enough to see the lines become either more and more outcrossed or more and more kinked lol

Bill, best of luck! I've long thought mojave caramel would be outrageous. The first two years after finding a mojave like girl in a pet store (found out this year she is not compatible) I tried to breed her to a possible het caramel male (the closest I could afford). Unfortunately she decided to take a few more years to finally produce and prove genetic in 07. Look forward to seeing your results to confirm if cross lines can help and also get a feel for how common the problem is (or hopefully isn't). And most of all to finally see a caramel mojave! I think one of the books has a hypo mojave incorrectly labeled as a caramel mojave but sounds like you have the chance to eventually produce the hypo caramel mojave which might be unreal.

Thanks for the well-wishes Randy. My male is from a June 07 hatch and produced 1 nice clutch from a normal last season. If he were as an aggressive a breeder as my Butter :gj:, I would be counting my Caramel Mojaves. lol It is all on him -- the girls will do their part -- I think????
It is all just one big crap shoot...Daddy needs a new...CARAMEL MOJAVE!!!!:banana::banana:
P.S. That hatchling labeled Caramel Mojave is a Hypo.;)

Hi,
I have seen people say that EB Noah has a line of caramels that don't seem to kink but I don't know how accurate that is. I know they seem to have a different colour cast to them - they look as though they have a lot more bluey/ purple to them in any of the photo's I have seen.

Derek, I have seen them -- they are SWEET!!! They also might not be Caramels??? They are high in contrast compared to the other Caramel lines. Don't think they have been crossed with others yet.

Are they the same as the Crider line?

I believe they indeed are. :)
Re: Which caramel lines are compatible?
I think I saw one once. It was reported to be a cb out of Africa that was known to be recessive but not compatible with caramel. Noah's name wasn't mentioned but I suppose he is the main person breeding in Africa. I also didn't hear details of how it was known not to be compatible.
As far as the Criders which sure sounds like it could be the same I've heard some interesting info if anyone can confirm? Someone once posted that it was actually the original imported line for which caramel was named but that it was slower to start producing and that Mr. Crider lives somewhere up in the Pacific NW and isn't really in to public marketing.
I do think if these really aren't compatible with caramel they are a new morph and really aren't a new "line" of caramel. I've never heard a name for the "African" line so maybe if they are compatible with each other Crider works but maybe that isn't the best if compatibility isn't confirmed and Noah's still need to be distinguished from Criders. I'm sure it will all be sorted out long before I can afford one. The one I saw was very nice and at first I thought it might be a banana.
Re: Which caramel lines are compatible?
Hi ,ihave a pair of the new line Caramels and they indeed do look very diferent to any Caramels i have seen.Even as babies they are ,as a previous poster said purple and gold.I have seen a pic of Erics Caramel and they do look similar.I agree that they are probably a different morph to the regular Caramels and will make some killer combos down the line. There are three of us in Canada with this line and we look forward to making some cool crosses in the future.Personally i would call them Ultra-Caramels,not my idea actually but that of the Guys who arranged the import to Canada, sounds pretty catchy!I cant seem to post pics on here but can send a pic to anyone curious to see the difference.Regards Mickey.
