It was a simple Christmas this year, so the greatest gift was the gift of re-connecting with family and appreciating that each Christmas is a gift (especially when you get to spend it with your 98 year old grandmother)!
I went to NC last week and did Christmas early with my family. My grandmother was admitted to the hospital with congestive heart failure halfway through the visit (she's been living with it for a few years). She was in the hospital right after Christmas last year, so the doctor teased her that she was due for a "tune up". She is mentally sharp as a tack - no memory loss that comes with age, and the doctors are amazed by her.
The Christmas gift this year was her release from the hospital yesterday!
As far as material gifts, the three gifts I asked for from family and received were:
Garmin GPS
Criminal Minds, Season 1 CD set
Pedi-Paws for Diamond
and from Karl
A high quality skillet
DVD player to replace one that died
and I'm sure Karl would say his best gift this year is getting to see and spend it with his mother who he has not seen in three years (they talk on the phone daily - distance has been a problem). She came to us this year!

We just don't really get gifts, since we're poor and my family is poor and his...well they're stingy.
However, we did get the monster TV for ourselves (pictures in another thread), and my mom (Suzanne Grace - who is now a published author! *shameless plug*) managed to send me not one but TWO "GiantMicrobes" - the Krill and the Algae. :D:D I've wanted those two for a while now.
Other gifts may be exchanged in a few weeks after my next installment of FinAid comes in. :)

We did a small christmas this year because we're moving south this coming year, but I did get a really nice computer/office chair to replace my old possessed one...lol.

Why do gifts have to cost anything?
To my wifes grandmother we gave a giftcertificate on my help. I told her that I could help her clean, paint some walls or what ever... dosen't cost a thing and she thought it was the best present ever.

i got a puppy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and a new camera since my old one is big and heavy i wanted on that it thin and light so i can carry it with me everywhere i go.
my daughter made me a gorgeous scarf, my son is taking me out for lunch to spend time one on one with me...
i'm a happy mama indeed!!!

yup we are the same. the kids are NOT ever allowed to buy me gifts. my daughter got some polar fleece and fringed it with scissors for me. (approx $2.50 worth of material)... my son wrote on his old t-shirt that he'd love to spend some time with me so he's going to take me for lunch so we can chat. :)
the BEST gifts are the ones that involve time!

I give 2 hour long backrub certificates to the girlfriend. She seems to like them, I had thought about becoming a masseur for a while

It's an impossible choice between new fishing gear, guitar hero 3(my first guitar hero game, I put off getting one so I could graduate college.. lol), and a brand spankin new huge exo terra for my cresties.
I can't wait to get it all set up! I'm going to have to make a trip to wal-mart and pick up a bunch of new vines and climing/hiding items.

I got tix to go see The Lion King musical!!! I've been wanting to go since it started playing, so now I finally get to go!! I still have Christmas with my dad, and he like supplying all of the herp related goodies! So I'll have an update on that later lol

We don't really do gifts at Christmas because we buy things for ourselves all year long, but my birthday's actually Christmas Day, so I ended up with really good birthday gifts this morning. I got a new keyboard and mouse because mine were apparently controlled by evil spirits, and would do bizarre things randomly.
But the best gift was Kevin McCurley's The Complete Ball Python. It's a big deal, because my husband's been a little skeptical of my interest in reptiles. Dropping $60 on a book for me shows a level of support that makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. :D

A big family gift received was a 37" LCD HDTV. Pretty cool ;)
I got no gifts except some candy and some money, and I've been saving.. in about a week I think I'll have an iPhone 3G.

I've been more than blessed with all I need in life. I don't usually like people to get me things, when I know they need the money. But I got the most wonderful tree ornament with my 7 grands names on them and a promise for a new one next year when the number is up to 9.
Mikkla, you are at the beginning of a long road, enjoy each and every step.

I got a new suit for upcoming interviews when I graduate. I actually picked it out a few weeks ago so I didn't actually get much today besides a new tool box and an ice cream scoop

I got some money and my in-laws (which HATE rodents) agreed to pick up 3 trios of ASFs for me since it's only 2 hours from their house (6 from mine) and drive em down here when they came. NY lacks ASF breeders, I can finally switch from mice/rat feeders to ASFs goodbye painfully strong stench.
Oh almost forgot my snakes got to eat off what was left of my mice/rat colonies. :banana:

Oh you are quite right... and normally I do give many handmade things since I sew, embroider, write, and my BF is great at Photoshop and such. This year however, because of the really cruddy semester I had and all the physical stuff, I couldn't find the time to make anything! :( And it's really hard to give certificates for services when you live hundreds of miles from everyone... *sigh*

I do not celebrate THAT day, and no, I am neither Jewish nor Jehovah's Witness. :)
But I did end up with a few sweet December treats between sales, trades, and just good luck and fortunate connections.

My hubby and I got super spoiled this year... But I think the best part of it was that it was the first xmas in 4 years that we spent entirely together, AND managed to see both of our families.

Well, we got snow, which was magnificent and made my Christmas quite joyous.
I didn't really ask for much this year; I have everything I need and I don't expect much from my family at this age.
However, I did do a lot of Boxing day shopping today and stocked up on some clothing for stealer deals.
That's about it...

We don't have or come from money, but I think I am rich and we are all happy and healthy!! I hope everyone here had a great christmas too!

I got to spend time with my cousin's new baby! She is the sweetest little angel! ^_^ I live about 5 hours from home, so I don't get to see the little kids much, and when I do they don't remember me very often. My other cousins kids are just old enough to kinda remember and not be shy.
We didn't do a whole lot of presents this year b/c everyone is a bit tight on money, but my aunt and uncle got my mom, my brother and I the big gifts that were were each wanting. It was a pretty good Christmas. I got a Zune so I can tune out everyone else when I'm in my studio now! It will make life so much easier!! ^_^

And I would have to say that Guitar Hero World Tour I got from my fiance' is WAY cool...
Other than that, I can't wait to use the Bobby Flay grilling cook book and Bobby Flay grilling utensils that my future mother-in-law got for me.

I got the PE-2 Temp Gun from my boyfriend, Regan(my new 8Ball girl), gift cards, and my new laptop from Mom and Dad, and then the boyfriends mom got me a bunch of tea. -Grins.- I really enjoyed just spending time with my family.

I got some nice things but I think one of my favorites will be the 40 ga breeder Creitter Cage for Puff the Beardie. My mother-in-law got me. It will be as much fun decorationg etc as it will ne for Puff to move in!
