Massachusetts
Are there any shows in Massachusetts? I know Florida and California are probably the big'ins lol but I would like to check one out and I'm in Central Massachusetts (Worcester County).
Even shows in Rhode Island and north of Hartford, Connecticut would be doable.

Re: Massachusetts
Nope, but there is one in White Plains and NH that is not a bad drive.

Re: Massachusetts
The one in Manchester is pretty good. Its only about an hour north of Boston.
There is also one in Portland Maine. Its usually at the end of August and is very small compared to the one in Manchester. I went in 07 but didn't go this year. http://www.portlandreptileexpo.com/

Re: Massachusetts
I'm in the Pioneer Valley for most of the year and we drive up to the Manchester show (about 2.5 hours) or the White Plains show (about 3 hours) when they come around. There is actually a White Plains show coming up on January 25 that you might want to check out. :gj: The link that OhBalls posted will have all the info you need about those two shows.

Re: Massachusetts
Awesome! I hope I can make it out to one! I'm in Worcester, so not too far of a drive which is good news!
Do people generally take their snakes with them or is it sort of like you just go and look at the breeders' snakes and supplies and such? It sounds like a really cool experience.
Don't want to be the only oddball with my snake with me (though I don't think I would be :P)

Most expos ask that you don't bring your own animals. Supposedly all of the vendors' animals are vet checked - and if you're buying a ticket with a snake in your hand, they won't let you in.
If you buy a snake there, it's perfectly reasonable to carry it around with you, although most folks leave them in their containers until they get home.

Re: Massachusetts
I've gone to the Manchester show twice, it's very nice. I live in Framingham, so its not too bad a ride.

Re: Massachusetts
I live in MA and the show i go to with any regularity is Hamburg, ive been meaing to go to White plains, and i went to one in Poughkeepsie once. Hamburg is pretty good for odds and ends, and harder to find stuff, but i think white plains is a bit more high class.
No shows, Yet, in MA that im aware of. Ive thought of doing my own, but its an expensive and stressful process..... not something im willing to undertake right now. The Big E lots would be a GREAT location though.... absolutely superb if someone were to pull it off.

Re: Massachusetts
The New England Herp Society is trying to get one going, but all of the laws have prevented them in the past. For now all I go to is the Manchester show. Nice to see so many people from Massachusetts are here.

Re: Massachusetts
I'll have to check out that Manchester one then. Comes around in April, right?

I don't have any pics from the Manchester show but I did go last year to the October show. It's generally a pretty good show. Not huge by any means but there's a good amount of vendors there. I don't know about bulk rodent food or substrate I didn't notice anyone there selling that stuff but I was there more for the animals than supplies. There were a few selling f/t rodents though.
I'll let ya know how White Plains is though. I'm going to the one this weekend, should be fun!
Edit: I wouldn't bother with the Portland ME show though, it's really small. Maybe 10 vendors or so with JnJ taking up 50% of the place.

Oh hello there! :colbert2:
Just curious, if you use frozen rodents where do you buy from? I recently put in an order from Big Cheese Rodents but if you know of a reputable local supplier let me know.

Re: Massachusetts
Hey everyone!
I'm in Springfield as well (Downtown right by STCC) and if you feel like making a long arse trip you can always go to the one in PA.
I'm not a huge fan of the White Plains show only because it's people who have stores and everything tends to be expencive. The PA shows are cool because of the venemous and poisonous animals as well as the small time breeders who sell their own frozen rats/mice/chicks/ducks/pigs. I prefer the PA shows, but there are some people who go there just to sell stuff and make money.
Anyway, i have found most are better than the NH show just for sheer size. I went to the last one and was greatly dissapointed because there wasn't very much stuff (my parents live a few towns away from it). Anyway, what they did have was AWESOME it's just hard to find different things there.
I always vote the Hamburg show, personally. Great place but a loooong drive (3 maybe 4 hours from Civic Center in Springfield) and yes, i still call it the Civic Center.

Re: Massachusetts
You guys need to come to the New England Herp Society meetings. neherp.com
They have a nice little flea market once or twice a year too.
Nice rodents at every monthly meeting as well.

Booooo NYC.
I went to the Boston shows in 05 and 06 but skipped 07 and I couldn't get tickets for last year. It was ridiculous how fast they sold out last year and this year.
This will be my 5th time seeing them. Its always a great time. I'll try to get some pics but i'm not sure how good they will be or if i'll even remember.

During the summer I interned at NE wildlife, but every time the herp society had a meeting I was working, you know the drill, feeding birds or cleaning or making food! ;) But this summer when I am back in Eastern Mass I will try to attend one of their meetings!!
