New additions to the family.

I have 2 new additions to my family. i purchased an 08 albino ball and an 08 albino het. the het is very strike friendly he basically try's to bite anything that comes in the cage with him. kinda need some tips on how to get the het calmed down im gonna let her sit for about 10 days before i try to mess with her again. the tanks i have them in right now are temporary's until i can make it to the pet store tomo and get everything for them. Your snakes are beautiful! While you're waiting for your store run, you could cover the sides and back of the tanks with anything that is dark; this will help the snakes to feel more secure.

Also, it looks like the male is trying to feel secure by hiding between the side of the tank and the water bowl. Please make sure that they each have two hides in each of the tanks.

Not handling either snake for a couple of weeks is a good idea :)

thanks for the good advice im currently looking around for something dark right now. as of right now the male is trying his hardest to get to the top of the tank and he is just falling over every time, kinda makes me nervous. That Het is a handful she struck 3 times within 5 minutes she is gonna get a lot of hand time after the quarantine period. do you think the store would have anything to cover the sides?

I just posted a thread this morning of a problem that I'm having with my girl striking me every chance she gets...not sure if it's a just a coincidence or not but she's a het Albino as well.

I make a fist and hold the back of my hand close to the snake. Sometimes they strike other times they just investigate. If they strike it wont hurt because its just a warning strike not a feeding responce. Let them strike a few times and eventually they will realize its not doing anything and give up.
Keep your hand in the area and let them get used to it.
This only works with hatchlings. If you try this with a larger jouvinile or an adult it will hurt.
I do have one male yellow belly that this is not working with. He is just not a people snake.

I have a het male and he looks just like your girl your having problems with. He is my baby! Hatched June 8, 2008 great eater and a lover too! He is really funny to watch, when I get home he comes out of his hide and just watches me until I get him out. Last night I got him out and was watching tv with him on my stomach, he pirched his head up stared at me for about a minute then rubbed his face on mine. Thought he was gonna strike at first (which he never has) and then it was like he was just giving love. Good luck with your girl, I hope you can tame her down a bit. Mine is still a little head shy, but we are working on it. :taz:

You can find stuff to cover the sides at a lot of different places. Gro stores carry dark construction paper, and art stores like Michel's and Hobby Lobby carry poster board you can cut to size and put on the outside of the tank with double sided tape. Only cost a few bucks and will go along way toward calming them down in their new home.

We have foil around our snakes cages, it helps reflect more heat in the cage and they can't see each other. They seem to like it. Help my temps stay the same.

Wow thanks for all the helps guys its really appreciated. as for the feisty one shes not a hatchling anymore, but im not scared of her taking a little bit of blood from me cant be any worse than the doctor sticking needles in you. im thinking about putting one of my shirts in the tank with her to let her get used to my scent. after the quarantine period im gonna see if she has settled down a little bit because i bought her at a reptile show and she was in a little container with 3 other balls with tons of people walking around so im just hoping she is stressed out. as of right now all 3 of my snakes are in there hide and taking a nap and im bout to head out to the pet store see what we can do about making them feel a little bit more comfortable. :snake:

Pictures don't do him justice. high contrast just amazing and got a really good price too.

I have a 1 kilo female bought as a 2 year old hold back from a breeder, obviously she has not been handled much and assumes anything going in her viv is food.
Once out of her viv shes not too aggresive but I wouldn't trust her with anyone else handling her. I'm hoping she will calm down eventually !!

Thats exactly how my het acts now, its fine when you get her out but when you reach in there you never know whats gonna happen. Im trying to leave her alone for at least another 10 days to get her settled in but its hard. I already offered her frozen food and she had no problem eating it. really good feeding response. the albino still is not wanting to eat i suppose another week and he will be ready.:rolleyes:
