What is the longest amount of time you have left your BP and enclosure unattended?
I'm referring to you leaving town or not being able to see your enclosure for a few hours/days, whatever it may be.

I'm currently out of town - I did complete enclosure cleanings the night before I left, and I'm sure I'll have a few overturned water dishes when I get back. I left last Saturday, I'll be back this coming Sunday to clean everyone up again.

This isn't the first time I've left for a week, they all survive! ;)

A week is my limit. Everyone gets two water dishes while I'm away in case they decide that one's a toilet.

Well, I did 10+ days but that's just because I was out of town for business for 2 weeks not too long ago but I still had my brother stopping in to check on them every other day and make sure that they all had water and their tubs were fairly clean.

I go out of town occasionally, but I usually have someone checking in on them every other day.

So, for me, without having someone else check them, 3 days.

With them being checked, a week.

That's pretty much the reason I posted it too :)

I'll be away for 4 days and wanted to ensure things would be ok.

I don't get away as much as I used to but they are fine on their own for a week or so -- anything more and I leave hubby home to refill bowls and clean cages. :P

My rescues I don't go check on but once or twice a week unless they have a medical need that requires me to be there more.

They're balls they'd prefer to be left alone, unless we come bearing gifts of rats and mice. :D

I left them once for a week and it was fine. I'm planing on going for 2 weeks this year. I will have someone check in on them once or twice. That's an awesome perk of having snakes, they don't have to be cleaned or eat everyday. I love that!!

My step-dad watches the reptiles when I'm away. :) So they've been at the most left alone for 3 days but I've left for 2/3 weeks.

The longest I have left my bps was a week. Over this holiday season, it will be 10 days. I don't feed them before I leave and I clean their tubs and water bowls. I would ask my roomate to check on them, but I know he wouldn't. But he does check the temps for me, which is probably the most important thing.

Re: What is the longest amount of time you have left your BP and enclosure unattended
I'm comfortable leaving them for a week. If I'm going to be gone much longer than that, I arrange for someone to look in on them, just to make sure enclosures aren't soiled and they have fresh, clean water. I've never had to ask anyone else to feed 'em.

over the christmas break i wasn't for sure if one of my roommates would be arround to take care of Lennie- so i took him with me. i actually just finished setting up a makeshift tub for him while we are down here, just need to find a waterdish that will fit. i'm going to be down here for over two weeks, so i figured this was the easiest way to go.

A week is easy, I've done it several times. I've done over 10 days, but I also used over sized water bowls then.

3-4 days. I know my ball python and boa would be safe if their enviroment was normal, but unfortunately my roommates like to "save money" on electricity by keeping the apartment at either >80 or <60. Thankfully, plastic bins are easy to come by, and if I can't take them with me, I have a few friends I trust enough to babysit.

I put 1-2 days, when I spend the night at a friends house or something, but I always call home to have somebody check on her.

But that doesn't count this summer when I went on vacation for 5 weeks... but she wasn't "unattended", of course. I let a friend take care of her, and I got almost daily email and voicemail updates.

I can't be gone for more than one day, I have rodents to care for, and the pups at home too. If not for the pups and rodents I may be able to go as much as 3-4 days without getting too worried.

I generally check everyone once a day, just to make sure they have clean water and nothing disgusting in their enclosures.
2 days is about my limit for how long I think I'd be able to leave them unattended without starting to stress... I know they'd be fine for a week or so, but I really wouldn't be able to leave them that long... especially this time of year.

Re: What is the longest amount of time you have left your BP and enclosure unattended
Just got back from a 9-day vacation. None of my family and friends will come to the house with the snakes there. So, the dog went to the nephew, the bird to the mother-in-law, the hamsters and fish are fine for 9 days - we've left them alone before. The fish has the automagic feeder. The ASF rats were about to have babies again, so I moved them to a super giant long tub, made the hopper twice as big, and put a huge water bottle. Fed all the snakes and left them all alone for 9 days. Got home and one of the ASF breeder was dead and buried in the corner. The snakes were good except the water dish was almost dry and one of the snakes pooped. Not sure what I could do with the rats. The dead one had no bite marks or anything - so must have had a heart attack or something. She was buried in almost 5 inches of bedding! I had a little over 2 inches of bedding all around and it seems like they dug up all the bedding in one corner, pushed the dead rat in it and then piled a lot of bedding on top. It was sad because she was a pet.

I check my animals almost daily, sometimes i skip a day or two here and there, but mostly, im always just checking for poop and urates, or anything that might need cleaning. I dont like my enclosures to get dirty for even a little while, the snakes dont have anywhere to go so id prefer that they dont crawl around in it, if i can help it ASAP. :gj:

Re: What is the longest amount of time you have left your BP and enclosure unattended
Change my vote from 1-2 days to 4-5 days. I recently went on vacation for a while and left my girl alone. She got fed, watered, and cleaned out before I left and she was perfectly fine. If I was gone for much more than a week, I would probably have a neighbor come over to check the temps. Make sure nothing caught on fire.

This has actually been the very reason why I have decided to expand my collection with more snakes instead of more lizards. I love travel and lizards (especially high-maitenance ones like beardies) kind of keep one from traveling. On the vacation said above, I took my beardie with me, but I wouldn't take multiple lizards. That's why I've decided to get more snakes instead of more lizards. Just something I've been thinking a lot about lately.

The longest I go is overnight or if I'm at work. Even then, if I get up in the middle of the night, I will go check on my guys and gals to make sure all is well. I guess I'm obsessed with them, what can I say? My wife and I don't even take vacations because we would worry about our pets the whole time we were gone.

If its for -3 days, I clean and fill water before I leve the place, put the dark lights in and leave the curtains open for day night. If im gone longer, I give a friend who is also here on BP.net and just peak and fill, check temp.

I have to leave for a few days at a time for work, and I love traveling (though my budget isn't going to allow any forays for a while). I could never have a pet that needs a lot of daily care, though I check out both my boa and betta every day, and do spot-cleaning, feeding, water changes, etc. when needed.

I'm lucky that my landlord is not only not afraid of snakes, he actually likes them, so he has no problem coming in every day to make sure Chew has water, and the fish gets fed. So far I have only been gone a few days out of a week, so I just feed the boa before I leave.

If I ever get enough money to hit Europe this year, I'll be out for 10-12 days. I may ask my sister to come in to feed the boa then :P:D

I'm also thinking that I should only have him feed twice in the next four weeks, just to lower the chances of anything going wrong...what do you guys think?

3 days is my max without a snakesitter. With snake sitter it's 7 days. Even though I know he takes the best of care of them and will handle them very well, I just get homesick and need to see them after a week.

I don't like it, but would do it for a few days. Not more than that, though. Not without someone reliable at least coming and topping off all the water at an absolute minimum. I won't leave my dog (for more than eight hours), period- if he can't go, I don't go. I didn't even leave my dog for more than eight hours to give birth! LOL

I am going to be in the Keys for two weeks end of July/early August and will be entrusting my younger (21 yr old) brother to care for my reptiles. He will be staying at my house, since he has school that isn't far from where I live and doesn't mind topping off water and he has a boa himself (that my parents will be caring for while he's at my house) and so is used to feeding frozen thawed. He will only be feeding them once while I'm away. Without a snake-sitter though, I wouldn't leave them longer than a weekend.
