Converting a Fridge

I know, I know. It needs to be cleaned. But this is the fridge I hope to convert into my incubator. All I need is a fan and some flexwatt. But I need you guys to tell me how much I need and how exactly I'm supposed to run the wires in and out of this thing. Also, how many egg boxes do you think I could fit in there? I ask because I want to know how long its going to last me until I need a bigger 'bator.

well i i am working on one very similar and to start i gutted mine and all i left was the shelves and i installed a light. they say you can use a computer fan but i have not figured it out just yet. and on mine i plan on using either two peices of 3 or 4 in flexwatt or one peice of 11 in.

id ggo with a strip of 11 inch flex down the back..

I just built my first incubator out of fridge the same size as that, and I am betting that 7-8 shoebox style sterilites will fit in it. Goodluck!

You can get fans from many things. The ideal size fan for that would probably best come from an air hockey table.

I also chose to use 15 quart tubs to incubate and I could get three in there at one time. I may try six quart Sterilites this year, depending on clutch size.

The bottom section I filled with water bottles to help keep the heat stable when I'd open the 'bator.

Yes, and no...

The fan that you will get will not be a plug-in-to-the-wall type deal, you will have to wire it with an extension cord or something else to get it to work.

you need a transformer. which one? well that would depend on the fans voltage

Why would you need to look for a working fan from an air hocky table? You can order 12v fans from 40mm to 120mm for under $10 new.

Yeah, you just need to order a 12v 800mA - 12v 1500mA DC wall transformer and wire the fan's + and - wires. That's assuming the fan is a brushless 12v. The fan should say on the front what the motor's specs are. You can go a little lower in voltage and about 30% lower in mA without damaging the motor, but I would get as close as you can without going over if you want the fan to run at full speed.

If you plag a DC fan into an extension cord you won't have a working fan after that. You need a comparable DC transformer. They make 120v AC fans, but they generally produce too much heat to be safely used in a smaller incubator.

Rip out the freezer portion and put in another self!

how many of you guys use 6qt tubs and how many could he safely get in that size fridge, looks cool
