mice rack tubs
can i use concrete mixing tubs for a mice rack with 1/4 screen on top?

Re: mice rack tubs
It depends on where you have the water supply. If the water is coming down from the top, they're a little too Deep. about 3 or 4 inches deep is good unless you have another way for the hoppers to reach the water sippers.

Re: mice rack tubs
Im using the mixing tubs with the water valve on top and having no problems, they jump to the top and drink upside down.

Re: mice rack tubs
If you make the sub deep enough there is no problems.
Make sure you buy them all at the same time and place, cuz like nix said they are all different now.

I just picked up 42 mixing tubs from home depot for $3.80 each
http://www.plasgad.com/info.asp?id=427
Lowes sells them for $4.95 each, so I am returned the first 8 I bought.

I've seen that too, but I'd be worried that not all of them are strong enough to get up there. Of course you could stick a brick or a chunk of 2X4 under the water sipper just to be on the safe side.

Re: mice rack tubs
If I were you I would use the vaness litter pans. When I was using the concrete tubs I had problems with the food because its not easy for those pregnant females to climb upside down. Also mice seem to do better in groups of 1.3 or 1.4 I was keeping 1.8 and all the pinkys would get stuck on the bottom while the fuzzys and hoppers would be on top, which killed alot of pinks because they were neglected.:gj:

I dont know about how many in a tub, but I try to make sure all my females have the babies around the same date, within 2-3 days so there isnt a huge size difference. Also, when the moms get LARGE I start placing food in the container also just so they dont have to worry about jumping to the top. It works good for a small setup.

Re: mice rack tubs
Oh yeah its fine if your doing a 6 tub rack but when you start doing like 20 tubs its a pain to put new food in there every day.
