    I wanna see him!!
he has been hiding ever since I put him in the tank ... suggestions?!?! my fil put a large pvc pipe in there cause he thought it was a GREAT hiding place ... and it is cause you can't get him out! once he is outta there I am NOT putting it back in!! I will get him another half log thing. I can't check on him or anything he is just curled up in there!!
So someone give me something to talk about while I wait for him to want to come outta there. I hope I don't have to wait until feeding day, which I decided will be Monday. Since I know he ate this past Monday.

I think I am just about there with the humidity ... the foil on the top of the tank worked like a charm!!

I am so frustrated with this pvc pipe thing, to many cooks in the kitchen is my feeling on this one! Sometimes that man ... ugh! Sorry sorry totally different subject.

Anyhow ... I guess I have to just sit and wait huh??

I tickled something more likey than not a belly  ... he moved but didn't come out ... now he is curled up so that I cant see his head at all. What a little booger!! *sigh* I guess I'll wait ...

and while I wait I'll ask yes another question ... I have mice in my house ...sad but true ... I am SURE he has been feeding on them. How do you think he will do when I try and feed him a thawed one? also ... whats the best way to offer it too him ... I have watched a few videos in most of them people used long thin tongs ... where to I get a pair of those!?!

he let me see his head just a bit ago!!! He didn't come out just brought his head to the end of the tube. Strangely enough he seems to like it better when the family is in full family mode, loud and busy ... he likes to watch. Still, I would like to see how the shed is going ... and to check and see if he has anything I need to have the vet check out ... *sigh* Come out Avy Come out!

-Grins.- You're so excited! It's cute.

I'd just let him be for a while. He'll make his debut again when he's ready and willing to do so. AND...I'm sure he'll have presents for you too.

Unfortunately, I don't feed frozen thawed, but I dangle the live rat just the same way you'd do the frozen. My rats just squeak and wriggle when I dangle them. Here. Check out the selection here. http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog/...sbandry-tools/

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to feed him live and I might just have to for a bit ... I just don't know how he is gonna be going from live in my kitchen to frozen thawed in a tank ... my Bil is a vegi he requests no live feeding *raise eyebrow* he actually asked me to take my turtle off of live food!!! I told him NO because he will never see my guy anyway he is in my room and they are about 100 times cleaner than pellet food! That he won't eat!

OH ... how does one dangle ... I mean is there one method that's better than others??

and thank you all for being patient with me ...

Ok, first of all, I would seriously suggest never putting something like a PVC pipe in the tank again. You're going to get your snake stuck. They get wedged in there and then they are unable to come out...

Second, why would he be feeding on the mice that are in your house? How is he able to get to them if he's in a closed tank? Unless he's not in a closed tank in which case I would ask you why not. You need to be very VERY careful about him getting any house mice because they can carry all sorts of diseases.

Third, please don't dangle the live rats. It's frightening and painful for them. Pre-scent the room to get him interested and he should immediately tackle the rodent once you drop it into his cage. I'm a vegetarian also, and I do feed live to at least one of my snakes. So I understand both sides: the snakes have to eat, but there's no need for the rodent to suffer. Please take the rodent into consideration.

She found him in her house, honey. That's why he's been feeding off of the rodents in the house. I hold the rat by the scruff of the neck. That's what I meant by "dangle." Sorry if I was seemingly cruel. (Just got off of work so I'm exhausted).

Man i wish i had snakes in my house...
    well... wild ones...

yeah the pvc was a poor choice for a hide.
as for getting him out, try spritsing him with some water... or get a f/t mouse and put it far enough away from the pvc so he has to come out...

thats what i would do... :)

He's not. He's in an enclosure that she has for him. She put a PVC pipe in there. Not the best idea, but I could possibly see the appeal.

She's referring to the fact that she's not sure how he's going to handle feeding something that's not what he's used to since he's been living on her mice for so long.

    Oh, one other thing,
depending on how big it is - i think i saw 5 foot somewhere?
i have found that a rubbermaid (without a top) that the snake can fit in snugly, and a cardboard top works well as a hide, i use it with my 8 foot red tail. if she poos in it i can just pull it out and spray it down and clean it easy, and the cardboard helps with keeping it dark... im sure you could find a opaque rubbermaid or something to use as well... :)

He looks like a pretty one. The potted plants should be ok if it's something you want to do. Research which types are sturdier because a heavy bodied snake will just crush most of them anyway. a lot of people use devil's ivy (golden pothos) which looks really great. The plants will help with humidity and such, but they're a pain to keep up with. Do some research into it if you want. If done properly it wont hurt the snake (only the other way around) and it'll look great. But like I said, it's difficult to keep up with.

it was evident today that poor Avy was STUCK in that f-ing pipe ... I got out a saw with tiny teeth so the noise and vibes wouldn't be soooo bad ... and I sawed and sawed and sawed .... one pass at a time I got to a point where I wasn't all the way through BUT could see through the plastic, well, could see dark behing the plastic .... then took a heelies wheel tool and used it kinda like a Church Key and popped the pipe apart ... and as my bil and I SLOWLY pulled it apart Avy started to wiggle! She could not do that before ... and we took off the part I had sawed around and she she worked her head out ... she looked RELIEVED to say the least!! we rinsed her off and placed her back in the tank and she explored for the first time :D I wasn't sure but she seemed hungry just looked like she wanted food ... so I went out and got a frozen big mouse ... live and learn next time it WILL be a rat! anyway As I was warming this thing up she was going CRAZY!!! I got the HUGE tweezers and dangled it she didn't move ... I moved it closer she started sticking the tounge out, I moved it a bit closer so the the mouse was almost nose to nose and she did her thing!! I know it wasn't instant but hey it's our first feeding together ;) I am HAPPY to see her strike and moved around her in tank :) I have solved the humidity issue :D I am ordering a thermostat tomorrow ... I will take some pics tomorrow too ;)

I do have one question ... since I KNOW she sould have had something larger than the large mouse I gave her ... should I get her another tomorrow when I make a trip to the pet shop? or should I wait til the next feeding?! .

    thank you!! :)

Oh I think we have the fever my boy is asking for a corn snake ... We are going to work on something like a 4-h report on the topic of Corn Snakes he will present it to MawMaw and we will set up a tank and have everything regulated once all of the projecs are done (about 2 months worth of activities) he will recieve his corn snake... he is 6 "and a half" ;) and he is EXCITED to learn all about them! in the mean time mommy will be doing her extra credit work searching out good places to purchase one from ... it will be a gift from MawMaw when the time comes.
