? Where to buy frozen mice/rats
I need recommendations on where to purchase frozen mice and rats.
The local big box stores are selling the frozen for the same price as the live. I was looking for some savings online but when you add in the shipping the price is higher. I hope I just haven't found the right place yet.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, JohnNJ
Re: ? Where to buy frozen mice/rats
i got my at a reptile expo
Re: ? Where to buy frozen mice/rats
ordering online will be way more expensive b/c of shipping unless you order in serious bulk..
I'd suggest putting an ad up on craigslist maybe? There's certain to be people breeding feeders who have some excess.
Are there any local exotics stores? I'd sort of expect some in NJ, don't know why I'd think that other than it's populated enough.. Most that I know of sell frozen feeders, and it really should be cheaper than petco/petsmart.
Sorry if that isn't much help on specifics but just some ideas that might get you on the right track!
Re: ? Where to buy frozen mice/rats
Got anybody you can go in with to split the cost of shipping?
Re: ? Where to buy frozen mice/rats
Go here Feeders: Rodent Supplier listthe price on frozens will be more expensive unless you can get them to ship greyhound or you order quite a few.
...wow I got crushed in that one
Re: ? Where to buy frozen mice/rats
Your big box stores must be cheaper than ours then. To order 50 large mice plus shipping would cost me (if i ordered that few) about 1.75 each. Petsmart mice (frozen) would run me about 2.90 each. (11.86 for 4 mice) The more you order, the cheaper it gets. I use a cheap imitation vac u pack thing from walmart and keep the freezer super cold and it keeps them fresh. Definitely check your reptile shows though, RodentPro hits a lot of them. Also I did find a couple of breeders through craigs list and happened to find a pretty cool guy besides (turns out he supplies a lot of our mom and pop stores)
Re: ? Where to buy frozen mice/rats
Anyone hear of Michael Hano Frozen Rodents? He does the reptile show in White Plains, NY. Anyone know how to get in touch with him?
Thanks, JohnNJ

I order mine from The Mouse Factory. I have ordered from the Big Cheese but felt the quality really paled compared to The Mouse Factory.
I always vacuum seal my rodents and date them. Vacuum sealed rodents can last a very long time, like a year or so, if you have a sealer.
Re: ? Where to buy frozen mice/rats
I get all my frozen mice and rats here http://rodentpro.com/
If you can find a another person to go in with and split the cost of shipping it helps. I have a friend that breeds water monitors and he is ordering stuff all the time. And we buy in bulk.
Re: ? Where to buy frozen mice/rats
If you are in NJ check out www.komodoreptiles.com . They will van deliver your order for free if you order over $75 worth and are in their delivery route. Good quality rodents! They deliver live as well.
Re: ? Where to buy frozen mice/rats
i would watch ordering from rodentpro. there was a post on MVF by a guy saying that their quality was bad and they had a rep of sending out bad batches of rats. peoples animals stop eating them becasue they were bad.
i posted on craigslist that i needed rodents and they flagged my post twice before i finally got someone local that i order from.
Re: ? Where to buy frozen mice/rats
you can put an ad on craigslist looking for people to go in with you on ordering some rats ive have done this a few times s&h split enough ways can be just pennies
Re: ? Where to buy frozen mice/rats
Did you ever get ahold of micheal hano?
Re: ? Where to buy frozen mice/rats
I find it best to buy from a local reptile show, because of shipping prices. I have also ordered from a few online rodent suppliers. In my opinion, American Rodent Supply is the best.
Hope this helps.

I called and they would deliver to my house for $6. Go figure.
Another thing I learned is that they sell feeders at the White Plains show. I'll be trying them out at the show in January.
Thanks for the info.

Thumbs up for Mike Hano! :gj:
I buy from him exclusively, either from his home or at shows. His rats are packaged well and are not covered in urine or feces.
Also, he's right off the GWB...perfect for you in Northern NJ.

Michael Hano called me back yesterday and left a message. He said he was away for a while.
Does anyone know where he gets his stock? I get the impression that he lives in an apartment so I'm not sure if he's breeding his own or buying in bulk from a big supplier.
Any info about the quality of his mice and his prices would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I too bought from Big Cheese, & the quality was not happy with. I too, vacuum seal my rodents too. I was going to buy from Rodent Pro, but I have found a good friend, who's prices are alittle better.
& her rats & pinkies... superb!!!:D
