I am crushed
I was checking my babies today. I opened my spider's cage and thought "he sure is in a strange position". His head and neck looked like they where in a knot. I touched him and nothing. He is dead. I am so crushed. I don't know what to do. Everyone else is healthy. He was eating fine, drinking fine, pooing fine. then wam he is dead. I don't know what to do. I guess there is nothing I can do. My dream of bees died with him. I am crying so hard right now I can barely see to type.
Have any of you had something like this happen? I don't know if he could have gotten stuck, or what.

Thank you, Ed, for that vote of confidence.
I appreciate it.

Re: I am crushed
The one thing to remember is that you are dealing with living animals that from time to time do just die. I remember hearing on Reptile Radio last year Dave Barker talk about he was cleaning cages and hear this commotion in a tub. Look in the tub and a VPI snow was freaking out and just die. He figured it had a stroke or a heart attack.
I know your upset right now at the loss of your spider and it sucks to the N'th degree. But unless there is an obvious reason this might just be a once in a life time freak occurrence for you .
I hope you find comfort soon and peace with time.

That is very true. It is sad and unfortunate, and I'm sorry it happened, but don't beat yourself up. It was surely something you had no way to know of, or no control over. Some just get wired wrong in the egg. We have no control over that.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss! I know it doesn't bring much comfort, but like Ed said - some animals just die - and we don't know why. Don't give up on your dreams though!

Re: I am crushed
Sorry to here about your spider. It's always painful to lose an animal. especially one you had high hopes for.:(

Re: I am crushed
hugs!! it happens sometimes, hon. Don't give up on the bees - they haven't given up on you!
Not to be painfully morbid, and I'm sure it doesn't help right now, but it's perhaps better that this happened before you bred him anyway, if it was to happen at all: if it wasn't a husbandry issue, it could well have been genetic, and imagine how crushed you'd be to learn that the bees you worked so hard to make might be prone to similar problems...
He'll always have a place in your heart, but don't bury your dreams beside him.
I wish i had a ton of baby spiders - i'd send you one in a heartbeat. I'm so sorry :(

Re: I am crushed
Thank you all. I have decided not to try and replace him, for now. Heather has been great and offered to help me find another spider when I am ready. I have never had a snake die in my care. He was doing so well then just like that he was gone.
He was only 126g but I had him breeding (in my mind) several different females. The pastel female that I wanted to breed him to is only 400g now so she is not even ready to breed yet. The biggest thing is not that my breeding plan will be put back, but the shock of looking in his cage and finding him gone just like that. I am sorry to go on so. He was so beautiful. He enjoyed being handled. His name was spidy, and he will be sorely missed.

Re: I am crushed
I am so sorry for your loss and your pain, dear!!!! *big hug*
Don't give up on your dream of bees, it may just take a different path now and a little longer.
I'm sure you did nothing wrong and it was just one of those things, sometimes animals just die.
Try to remember that you gave him a wonderful life, and that you gave him love and good care. You couldn't have done more for him, and you should feel proud of the care and love you gave him. He appreciated it, you know he did.
Best wishes!

from bad to worse
When I got home last night one of my ferrets was sleeping in an odd posiition. I picked him up and found him limp and breathing hard. With in the hour he was gone. I can't belive it. 2 of my babies in 2 days. I cant help but wonder what is next. I don't know of anything that could be transfered from a snake to a ferret, do any of you? Life sure sucks right now
