My "male" Beardie just layed eggs???

OK, so now I know Doobie obviously is not a male :weirdface Geesh! Unless there is something about male dragons that I was not aware of...:8:...if that's the case - please :please: fill me in now!
Why do people lie when they sell you animals??? Guess I will never understand that.

Anywho....I assume the eggs are slugs (obviously) since there is no male present. I wasn't aware a female could lay eggs at all with out a male :confused: Should I expect this to happen often? Is there anything special I need to do for her? Extra food? Leave her alone? Anything?

Also, do I just reach in there and take the eggs away? She seems to be guarding them :weirdface

Any input would be great. Thanks in advance ;)

It happens Hun just make sure to do the dusted crickets and even a little on any veggies and fruits that you are giving also a fat pinkie every few weeks wouldn't hurt I did that for my breeder females when they were laying and it happens to almost every female species on earth think about your monthly

Oh yeah...Can I just remove the eggs? She is laying on them still. There are sooooo many!

no hun i meant that females in general can produce eggs even without compulation lol

ok so should she remove them or not? and how often will a female lay, even without a male present?

i had a conure that laid eggs every few months you never can tell with each animal and yes she can remove them as they are most likely not viable

Just removed the eggs - Doobie made it interesting, she kept puffing up as if she was defending them and whipping her tail around...poor thing :rolleyes: I also ran out to the store and got her a pinky which she gobbled right up ;) Along with some dusted superworms. I still cant believe she laid soooo many eggs - 22 to be exact! Now she's chillin on her basking spot ;)

Maybe I should think about getting her a boyfriend :hump: :confused:

Get her a egg nest, she might have been holding them in for a while waiting for one which has cause alot of complications ( for instance getting eggbound)

yeah the pinkies seem to boost there protein levels i used to give them to all my girls during breeding season( beardies were the first animal i ever bred way back when i was 17 man that was a long time ago lol) but Lena dont give her to many pinks they tend to get meaner when fed to many plus its not something they would get in the wild

Our first female Bearded Dragon has given us 2 sets of eggs for the last two years. Of course she was never with a male Bearded Dragon so we knew they were infertile. We just removed them and threw them away. But if there is any chance they could be fertile then I'd remove them asap and freeze them. That way you don't have to worry about hatching babies in the odd case they had the proper temps in the landfills. That is if you are not ready to raise a bunch of babies up.
And yes it is a good idea to give them an area to lay eggs. They can get egg bound which is not good. I even had my herp vet tell me I should get my females spayed. Apparently it is possible but until my vet said something about it I never knew you could. I'd be more afraid of my BD being under the knife. But she is a vet that hates breeding of any animals. :rolleyes:
Now that you know he is a she, you can be more prepared for future eggs being laid. :)

I will be sure to keep the pinkies to a minimum. I think she has had a total of 5 since I got her. So that would be 1 pinky every 3 weeks or so ;) The bulk of her diet (85%) is salad with about 10-15% being dusted crickets, super worms & silk worms:D

She hasn't been with a male while I have had her so I just pitched the eggs. I didn't realize you could have a lizard spayed - I can't imagine putting her through that. Now I am seriously considering getting a male for breeding - time for more reading :rolleyes: DIY Incubators & racks Oh my :P

Come on, getting a lizard spayed? Whats it going to do get loose and find a wild male and make wild beardies? Id stay away from that vet. Its almost as easy as the simple thing of keeping the beardie away from others of the opposite sex. I am not sure, but I do think that spaying them is could cause many problems.

Nothing wrong with getting them spayed. People get Iguanas spayed all the time. It would prevent them from laying infertile eggs, which could possibly get eggbound, or the lizard could end up getting hypocalcemic from the constant laying if the owner isn't up-to-par with supplementing them properly.

Sucks that they told you it was a male and it was a female tho...I knew a person who THOUGHT that their cornsnakes were a boy and girl.... and they kept them for years and just found out that they got 2 males.
