Do boas have color changing ability?
:rolleye2::rolleye2: I have a one year old normal redtail boa and ive been noticing that she looks different some days than she does others. She will look really clean and smooth and then the next day she will literally look darker and more black dots all over her. SO am i just crazy or has anyone else experienced this?

Nope just one lol!
Re: Do boas have color changing ability?
Redtails do exhibit a lot of blushing ability. Heres a little girl that when she arrived, was almost black!

Yah man no prob!
They actually can change quite a bit, almost surprising at times.
Re: Do boas have color changing ability?
mine go through dark and light phases. usually after they eat, or if they are having a bad day, they will be darker, lighter if they are having a good one :)
Re: Do boas have color changing ability?
From what I have seen they do go through color changes. Yesterday my boa tipped over her bowl at some point in time, when I went to go clean up the mess I noticed she was abnormally lighter than usuall. I think it could be a humidity thing, my SD retics change to a lighter color when their humidity suddenly rises too.

Though I have seen them go from phase to the other with steady humidity
Interesting possibility, It could be a factor

I agree that emotional states may play some role in the color change as well.
Re: Do boas have color changing ability?
Are there certain types of boas that stay more consistent?
I have seen pics of young boas that are beautiful light bodies with a red hot tail, aboslutely gorgeous snakes but then I see a lot of adults who seem to have just dulled out a bit. Their body is a bit darker and their tail is darker and less red as well.
Re: Do boas have color changing ability?
Most BCI's will "brown out" as we call it.
As babies they are vibrant and brilliant greys, but once they mature, it dulls into deep browns and caramels. Now that said, not all will brown out. I have seen some AMAZING normal BCI's that could fool even the most trained of eye.

Hogg Island Boas have the ability to change color.
