Let's See Your Dinker Projects!
First off, best wishes to all everyone breeding this year. May the odds gods smile upon you!
I would love to see what some folks have going for dinker projects. I love the normal-type BP variations, so what kind of quirky normal BP coolness do you have in your rack?
I haven't been around much lately, so pardon me if there is an existing thread...or better yet direct me to it!
Cheers!

Re: Let's See Your Dinker Projects!
Here is one I have...it's a cinny x dinker project. I am looking to get some killer cinnamon's out of this combo.:)

I don't know if this really qualifies as it's my only project this year.

He's a het ghost. I really like her pattern and she has really light eyes for a normal. Could be nothing but fun anyway.

Re: Let's See Your Dinker Projects!
Well I don't really have much to work off of but I do have one little dinkin project that I've been considering playing with.
This girl here has got an awesome black back and great blushing throughout, plus her head pattern is IMO quite interesting (I'm a sucker for neat head patterns on normals).
Sorry this is a real dark picture but you can see how that stripe does not connect to the chin pattern. It's something I just recently noticed and I think makes her quite unique though I'm sure people will try to prove me wrong on that lol.

Here's a shot of that black back that I love.
http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/g...Balls00148.jpg
Still haven't decided what I'd like to pair her up with in the future but she's still got time to grow. I'm thinking of a cinnamon or possibly a nice reduced pattern pastel since if even half of that blushing she has follows through to her babies they will be absolutely beautiful! Plus I love black-backed cinnies :D.

Re: Let's See Your Dinker Projects!
These won't be ready to breed for a while, but this is a pair I got from LGL here. The mom was a C.H. and had the same yellow side stripe, granite speckling and wide white bands as these. I'm going to breed the male to a normal next year, then breed the female to a YB and her brother in 2010. I'm hoping it's genetic and hoping to see a super or YB combo with some cool striping.

Re: Let's See Your Dinker Projects!
I bought this girl in 2003 as a nearly 700 gram reported import so don't know what she hatched out looking like or if she suddenly changed color like others that have failed to prove:
http://homevtour.home.comcast.net/im...01safrShed.jpg
As she got close to breeding size she suddenly became a picky mouse eater. I sent her out on a prearranged breeding loan where probably due to her picky eating she failed to produce for several years. In 2007 I got her back and sent her out on another loan where again she didn't produce. This fall I am going to finally try. She seems to be eating better and also I now have ASF's so maybe this will be her year.
She stopped shedding clear and became both more dark and more yellow as she grew (mostly back in 2003) and here is what she looks like now:
http://homevtour.home.comcast.net/~h...01GAFR_med.jpg
With all the changers that have failed to prove over the years I’m not holding out tons of hope on this girl but would very much like to get some babies to find out one way or the other.
I’ve got several other dinker projects including one that has actually proven so I’ll try to get some better pictures and add those to this thread later.

Re: Let's See Your Dinker Projects!
Here is a girl I picked up at a pet store in 2001 and one of her 2007 and 2008 daughters. None of them wanted to sit still and while this picture is horrible at least it shows the true colors of the youngsters. Mom is prettier than shows up here but not as nice as either of her daughters.
After years of both of us trying Daniel Garcia first got this girl to produce on a breeding loan in 2007 proving her broad pattern and dark glossy look genetic when about half the babies came out looking like her so I'm calling the morph Garcia. In 2008 on another breeding loan Marshall Van Thorre produced the combo with Mojave like the smaller girl shown here.

Randy, that 08 baby looks a lot like Ralph Davis's Phantom or Super Phantom. Maybe the 01 female is a Phantom! Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the Phantom the same as a Mojave and what Ralph calls a Goblin is what we call a Yellow belly? Just my thoughts.

Re: Let's See Your Dinker Projects!
Thanks for the input Jay.
I think goblin and yellow belly are the same snake but while related the phantom seems to have some valuable distinct properties from mojave. The homozygous mojave is a mostly white snake with a little dark color on the head while the homozygous phantom is a fairly dark snake. Interestingly before the homozygous versions of either where known there was a brief time when both RDR and TSK thought that maybe the phantom was a mojave but it now looks like they are two distinct different mutations of the same gene (along with several others including lesser/butter, Vin Russo, the hidden that turns a lesser into a platy, and the special that turns mojave into crystal).
I had originally hoped that the young Garcia adult female I found at the pet store in 2001 was something in the white snake allele complex and perhaps even a phantom but this year when the combo snake with mojave wasn't white I decided Garcia probably isn’t related to the lesser complex. The lesser + phantom is a white snake (karma). While I don't think anyone has made the mojave + phantom yet (hardly anyone has phantoms) I expect it to be mostly white but I guess we will know when someone does cross mojave and phantom when phantoms eventually (might be a while) become more common.
Some have pointed out that the Garcia's look like one or both lines of chocolate. I can see the similarity and they might turn out to be the same but from what I've been able to gather the belly of the original female isn't quite right. I finally did get a son from her this year but I don't know if he has the Garcia gene. He is a mojave and not as obviously the combo as his nice high pattern brown sided sister mojave Garcia in this picture. I just put him in with his first female tonight to see if he is ready to breed yet or not so with a lot of luck maybe I’ll be able to figure out if he is just mojave or mojave Garcia based on his offspring.

Re: Let's See Your Dinker Projects!
I hatched this girl out last summer - she looks normal but something is a bit different with her. She is very dark with a lot of yellow/orange and has a really cool "V" pattern on her belly. She is also mean as hell and holds the record for the most bites. :O

I bought her sire as a ch black pastel (?) but I'm beginning to think he may be something else?

Re: Let's See Your Dinker Projects!
Excellent stuff everyone!
I'm not sure if this female qualifies as a dinker... but I would really like to get some babies that look like her. Her boyfriend for this season is a mojo, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they fall in love! Or at least deep lust! ;)

Re: Let's See Your Dinker Projects!
I found a pic of a little guy i picked up as a dinker, he should be ready next season. His scalation on his head is a lot different than my others and his snout is pretty stubby. Not sure if that is a result of incubation or not. I bought him as CH. Anyway, he's my little pet project and a feisty one to boot.

Re: Let's See Your Dinker Projects!
I really like that guy and there are some other very interesting snakes here too.
Is the black all the way under the eye common in some proven morphs like mojave? I’ve never paid much attention to scaleation but probably should start.

Re: Let's See Your Dinker Projects!
Wow there are some really exciting projects going on! I hope these prove out!
I snapped a couple quick pics of Dunker today alongside a more 'normal' looking ball to give an idea of color. Buuuuuut these quick pics arent the best! :P

As I said earlier, I have been pairing him with a cinny female who he has had several locks with. I am really hoping to produce some extra dark cinnies beings Dunker is darker in coloration as seen in the photos. Anywho this is probably my most exciting clutch for me this year....if there is a clutch to be that is :P
THanks all! :salute:

Re: Let's See Your Dinker Projects!
Weeel... I'm not sure you'd call my project 'dinking' or not. That normal female I rescued has a granite-y pattern, darker than usual dark scales and lighter light scales. In addition, I picked up a very gold normal male that I want to put with her to see what comes about. :) Not exactly dinking, but I think they'll produce some interesting little ones.
Here's Hera, the female, when I first got her. Her colors have a lot more contrast now, but she's been a bit grouchy since the weather chilled and hard to get new pictures of.

And the male, Zeus. The lighting does nothing to show how golden he really is.

Re: Let's See Your Dinker Projects!
Here's a picture I took today of my dinker girl (NF1) after putting my Pastel Male in her cage. She is an '04 female that was a really picky eater when I purchased her in 2006. She didn't produce anything during the 06-07 season, and due to her pattern of going off feed, I didn't breed her last year. She's up to weight this year and has been locking with my Pastel male. I'm hoping to finally get some hatchlings from her! The Pastel male looks dull in this picture and weighs over 925g.
Here's the pic from today:

Re: Let's See Your Dinker Projects!
This picture is not so great but she has a little granite thing going on and a lot of blushing. She seems to get more orange with each shed. She shed the day after this pic was taken.
