    inland carpet pythons
sadly i don't have any pictures yet, but the boyfriend and i just picked up a (free!) pair of inland carpets from a couple who couldn't keep them anymore. i've honestly never heard of them before. when we got home i immediately searched for any information i could find, and was disappointed with the results... next to nothing.

so i was just wondering, do any of you keep them? i do have a female jungle carpet, do they require the same temp/humidity, etc?

    thanks in advance!

you can house them about the same as a jungle i think. look on anthony caponellos site you will most likely find all the info needed. or google it and you can get some also. i googled it and found some info on them and as far as i can read they are in the darwin carpet family. i'm sure someone with more experience in them can help if they sign on but i dont know much about them either. i'm sure they arent difficult to house and most likely about the same as jungles or coastals.

most all carpets can be housed with relatively the same conditions.

thanks. :] i'll go check out his site now.

i did google them, but all i found were general descriptions of the subspecies, etc. and no caresheets. i did read enough to find out that the pair i have are apparently also known as "murray darling carpet pythons".

i seriously doubt they're inlands... there are probably less than a dozen inlands in the entire US, except for maybe in zoos. they don't have anything to do with darwin carpets...
anyways, inlands cost several thousand dollars so unless the people you got them from are crazy or really like you, i don't know... you should put up some pics though. :)
the scientic name is M.s. metcalfei if you want to look up some info on them.

I knew Colin was gonna see this and shed some light on it. I read it earlier, but don't know much about them.

Its sorta weird someone misrepresenting an animal as an Inland. I mean maybe who ever they got them from did it but its just not common to see Inland even misrepresented, well I should say this is the first time I have ever heard of it. That said Colin is right most likely it isn't an Inland. I also have my curiosity peaked I want to see pics.

I can back up Colin 100%. There are currently only 10.9 in the U.S. They have all been imported in from Europe.
Inlands are several thousand dollars ( I should know,I just bought a pair. :D ). If all goes well, I will have them in next week! :D:D

You probably have a pair of coastals. I have actually seen a pair of coastals misrepresented as Inlands one time before.

i'm no expert by any means, i'm just going by what i was told... the story i was given was that the couple we got them from bought them off a woman who paid $1400 for the pair from a good friend of hers for the sole purpose of scaring off her husband. (ridiculous, right?) so the snakes were given to this couple, then they decided after several months (including two months wherein the snakes were missing) they didn't want them anymore. so now they're with us.

from what information i could find, they look a lot like inlands to me. it's very possible that i was misinformed, so maybe someone can tell me by the looks of the photos above.

Yeah, those are coastals. I imagine if they paid that much, they were probably jag sibs or something. Couldn't imagine someone selling a normal pair of coastals for that much! Nice looking carpets, regardless. Glad you can give them a good home.

Definitely coastals. They look very similar to the pair I mentioned before that were misrepresented as Inlands.

The story smells fishy or someone was just raked over the coals. Either way, hope you are happy with them. Coastals are great snakes to have.

thanks for the feedback, but i'm just curious... what is the differentiating characteristic here? i'm not trying to be a smart-aleck, i'm genuinely curious. looking at pictures of course isn't the best way to classify a snake, but i didn't doubt that i had a pair of inlands simply because they did look so similar and i didn't really see the resemblence to the coastals as much because they seemed to be more brown, red, and generally bright.

i would be more interested in the fishiness of the story myself if i hadn't gotten them for free. :) they're great snakes, and a joy to have.

    thanks again!

thanks! i'm looking forward to working with them, getting them back up to a healthy weight, etc. the people we got them from weren't very attentive, to say the least.... i'm just glad i didn't pay that much for them! but i definitely was hopeful about them being murray-darlings. oh well. they're great animals.

i guess that's why i believed they were inlands, because there was no reason for them to lie to me. they didn't pay for the snakes and i didn't either, so it's not like they swindled me out of my money. i guess we were all just misinformed.

most likely the original owner of them didnt want them any longer and decided to either say they were something they werent with a higher value hoping someone would take them for free just to get rid of them or it is possible someone scammed the original owner selling them to him/she as inlands and the original buyer didnt know any better. how ever it may have happened atleast you didnt have to pay for them so enjoy, and love them as if they were the only pair in existence.
