Re: Here is my guy
He is supposed to be a pastel, but he looks pretty normal to me. Doesn't matter, he is pretty and I love him. He is much bigger now, but I broke my camera after a few days of owning it (nothing serious just waiting on a part) so I'll get better pictures later.
He only eats live mice. I've tried frozen/thawed no luck. I've tried live rat no luck. I'll continue to try frozen/thawed, haven't given up yet.

Sweet, is he a pastel or a really bright normal?? He's a little hottie either way! And great pictures, he looks like he's loving that hide :D

Don't give up on the f/t. Some snakes just get set on a certain prey type though. I know people who have 3-4 year old snakes that are only 7-800g because they refuse to eat anything but mice. It's best to try to get him on rats early. Good luck and yeah he is very pretty :D

The guy that sold it to me told me he is a pastel. At the time I didn't know what that meant. I went to the expo with the intentions of bringing back one snake (a king snake) and came home with two. I was with my kids and they kept pointing to the ball pythons and saying they want one of those. So I asked a couple of friends of mine that were with me at the expo about the care required and it was fine. I'm really experienced with reptiles in general. We looked up and down the aisles and stopped at many tables, but this was the ball my kids liked best. I asked the price and the guy told me he was $100 and a pastel. I had no idea about morphs and such and the high prices they bring. I think it is funny that my kids picked an inexpensive morph based only on aesthetics. I am glad that they didn't ask for a mohave or bee as when it comes time to picking out one of the more expensive morphs I want to have a good idea of what I am looking for. I want to get a female for him. But I'm not sure what. I really like mohaves alot.
He has grown so much since I got him, it really surprises me. I will post more pictures when I get my camera working again.
He has a lot of ORANGE on him, so I suspect he is a pastel, just not very bright for pastel. He has the color of orange sherbet on him. Very pretty. He has a great personality to and seems to enjoy being with me. I guess I'm nice and warm. LOL

Re: Here is my guy
Hi,
Well looking at his nose and the top of his head I would say he is a pastel alright.
I also think he looks cute as a button peeking out of that hide. :D
Next time your taking pics if you get a nice belly shot and a good pattern shot I'd like to see them. :)

Thanks for asking. I'd really like to know if he is a pastel for when it comes time to breeding him and buying a mate which might happen in a week from Sunday. Here you go...

Re: Here is my guy
The kid holding the snake is my youngest son. He looked at well over a hundred balls and picked this one I don't know why. When I told him I didn't want to get the snake without preparing for its arrival first, he started to cry. He really wanted THIS snake. I had and extra couple of heating pads and various size enclosures at home anyway, so I said OK. The orange coloring on his side doesn't show up very well in the pictures and he's due for a shed. So... pastel or normal?????????

He's a Pastel alright. - (this statement is based on my limited knowledge, but I'd like to wager on this one being a Pastel anyway)

Re: Here is my guy
Thanks everyone. I appreciate your replies. Now here is the million dollar question. What makes y'all say pastel. I look at everyone's pastel and they are always bright yellow or really light. He's dark. Is he just a poor quality pastel? Don't worry about insulting him, I don't care. I didn't pay much more than a normal, the incremental amount is insignificant to me. We picked him because we all thought he's beautiful. I didn't know anything about morphs at the time. We just like the way he looks. I'm just curious.
Next question. Is cinnamon the same as cinnamon pastel? Is cinnamon pastel the same as black pastel? In case it isn't obvious by now, I'm not really comprehending what I read about morphs.
When I look at pictures, I tend to be drawn to the brown patterned snakes. Especially since I already have one that has a jet black pattern. I would like to get him a girl to breed with. Is a cinnamon a good choice? I'm going to a show next week. How much can I expect a good cinnamon to cost? Are there any other morphs that are dark brown, rather than black (not solid, patterned.)

I'd say you got a pretty good deal then! There are certain things that you can look at to tell whether or not they are a pastel. Check out the Hunter's guide to the Morphs that was posted earlier it'll give you a lot of clues. As far as him being a "poor quality" pastel, that's all up to you! Some people like pastels that brown out more, some people like the crazy neon yellow like the lemon pastels. It's your snake, you're the one who has promised to give him a home for the rest of his life and if you like his color that's all that matters!

"Cinnamon pastel" is it's own seperate thing. There are various differences between them not the least of which that a pastel bred to a pastel produces super pastels, while a cinnamon bred to a cinnamon (or cinny) may produce all BLACK snakes!

That's all up to you, if you like the look of cinnamons go with that! Again it's all based on what you like and what is going to make you happy. I personally love cinnamons and a pastel bred to a cinnamon may produce Pewters! My absolute favorite morph ever. A female cinny can cost anywhere from $300 to $600 depending on who's selling it, what line it comes from (graziani tends to be the nicest IMO and therefore the most expensive) and the quality of it. Remember also that it takes 2-3 years at least to get a female up to breeding size but if you're willing to wait it will be WELL worth it.
