GTP cages?

Does anybody know where I can find a nice Green Tree Python cage?

What size GTP are we talking??? You can start them out in 6qt tubs, yearlings in 15-16qt tubs, etc.... Otherwise For great caging at a great price you can take a look at http://www.pvccages.com/. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I'm not too sure on the size yet but I know it will be a small GTP.

i used an exo terra 18x18x18 for my neonate. if you go this route YOU HAVE TO change out the mesh top with acrylic!!! or it will not hold humidity you need for GTP. before you even get the snake, put some of the plastic closet rod holders in the tank. i used a industiral silcon and its held for well over a year and counting. this makes it easy to put perches in the cage.

Dito, I used (and still do) the 18" Exo myself. I cut 2 pieces of plexi and set them on top of the screen though. It is also important to cover each of the sides for added security. I used black foam board for that.

My 3rd post and I already have to disagree. I use a dome light, so covering my top in acrylic wouldn't work. Simple way is to get a towel, and turn the water on hot. As hot as you can stand on your hands. Put that over the top. It will hold good humidity for 2 or 3 days. Still mist once a day.

Tubs are by far the best thing for neos though. They hold heat and humidity, plus they aren't too much room.

ive alway herd not to use towels becasue they absorb mositure. also ive herd not to use dome lights, or CHE because it will dry the animal out. i would not recommend either method and just to give an example: i know someone with two emeralds who is completly stupid and won't listen to what i tell them. he has them in a acrylic cage with paper towel substrate and a large water bowl. he thinks thats enough humidity. they are heated with a CHE with a dome and both have stuck shed, on has a retained eyecap and both always look dehydrated.

molenater, i would buy the complete chondro by greg maxwell if you haven't already and give it a read. in there you will find everything you need to know about care....don't want to buy it? just look up greg's website (finegtps.com) and he has care sheets on there. also there is another website with a forum dedicated to GTPs called moreliaviridis.com. give that place a good look and you will see my methods are those used by many with this type of animal and are proven with great success.

these snakes are not as tolerant of others. so do you home work and you won't have problems!

Ok cages well Jim Scharphorn cages are downright the best I feel awesome look hold humidity great and are perfect for your yearling to adult....
Ok now for neonates your best bet when its small until its a yearling is a tub really.. These babies aren’t display animals yet they thrive in a tub and easier to care for them as well.
as for a towel I don’t use them for my Gtp ( don’t need to humidity way up) but for my other snakes in opaque I do use towels and its works like a charm.

I threw the shed out from Friday yesterday. I should have got a pic. My guy shed in the most perfect piece I've seen. Jaw linings and eye caps. I'm also in AL which has 55+ humidity all year so that really helps out.

what do you use to heat the exo-terra cage?

you dont have to look any further than your local dollar general! 6qt tubs are less than a dollar:gj::banana: Sterilite.....

wet towels are not really good to use because of bacteria growth and risk of fire. also no matter how hot the water is, the towel will cool down within minutes of being placed on top of the enclosure so i dont see the point. youre better of covering up the top with something like plastic wrap and cutting out the area needed for the heat lamp if you use one. then get a substrate that hold moisture well and mist when you have to. this has always worked for me when i used tanks.


just my .02 good luck finding a good enclosure.

i use a pro products 30watt heat pannel. they are probably the best thing to heat a cage IMO. they do a great job. look around, ive seen used ones for cheap. always use a thermostat with these things.
