This is actually excellent customer service. As a professional in that industry *cough*, keeping your "voice" professional and pleasant through emails can be really difficult...

I work for a company that monitors emails and records phone lines where one legitimate customer complaint can get you fired they are so crazy about excellent customer service -
You can bet I'd be emailing him back his spider too....

The best is when a customer escalates through corporate about a tech on the phone then the tech denies it and we sit down with them and play the recorded call for them. :D
