Yup - I "discovered" these in Daytona at Pete Kahl's table and decided that the Tiger project is one that I want to work. I have the female enchi (my avatar) - now I need a male desert for her to "date" in a few years! :D

Recessive, dom or codom? Does anyone know? Seriously I really need to find this out before I make future plans to get one (after breeding next year).

At least dominate - unknown yet if they are co-dom. Chad Brown talked about them on Reptile Radio and it appears that the females may be dwarfs, so they are taking much longer to grow up to breeding size to find out if there is a super.

If you listen to that episode of Reptile Radio - he addresses that specifically.

I love the desert combos. I almost picked up a desert pastel in Daytona last year from Stan Chiras (sp?) but couldn't part with that much $$. I think Robyn bought some of Stan's animals and has just made some amazing combos. I really like the tiger and the pin tiger!

I saw the desert tigers at Pete's table this year in Daytona. It's so exciting to see the way these are taking off.

There are also desert ghosts/hypos. Mark and Kim Bell produce these. Don't get confused though . . . . their line is recessive not co-dom.

NERD also has desert ghosts - they have recessive and dominant lines, I believe - because I'm always asking Kara - which line was it I liked best? I believe it's the recessive line I'm crazy about:

So is the desert ghost a combo? A desert ball mixed with a ghost ball? Or is it its own morph?

Yeah I've seen those before too..... They're just an incredible looking morph and they clean up those combos really really well. That Desert Spider they have on there is just amazing looking IMO but I'm a wicked sucker for spider combos lol.

If you go down and look at Desert Het. Clown, there is a significant looking difference than a Desert.
Why does the Het gene affect the Desert gene? Does that make it not true recessive?

I have seen these at Pro Exotics in person and spoken with Robyn. I have also spoken with Casey Lazik about a morph that looks like the Desert but may be slightly different... not sure but Casey is calling his a Tiger project?

The strangest part of this is that this Dom or Co-Dom gene causes the recessive genes to come out in some other form. It appears to almost make the recessives look like a co-dom. I do not think that anyone understands
this from the conversations that I have had. :rolleye2:

i think that we will never truely be able to fully explain everything that happens in the animal kingdom, ie. desert hets, woma gene. we should just take it as art an enjoy it.

It probably is a Desert and he is calling it his Tiger project because he is going to combine it with an Enchi to get a "Tiger". Tiger is a morph you get when you combine a Desert and an Enchi. Maybe thats it.

hopefully these will drop in price soon since they are dom/co-dom.

Seems like they would since they can be produced with normals.

Tim, do you know if Stan sold his deserts to Robyn or did Pro Exoctics get their collection another way? I was told by several that they came from Stan. I guess it really doesn't matter and there might be a good reason not to know.

Have I recently said that I really like the deserts? :D

Robyn or Chad (I forget which one it was, they've both been on a couple times) did mention on Reptile Radio that they got the desert project from Stan Chiras when they bought his collection.

Also, just another bit of trivia I realized the other day while looking through VPI's book, apparently Stan called it the Stardust? That's what it is listed as in the book.
