Either way i think it was too big, so maybe it was a good thing those folks were around to disturb it.

It´s probably a Morelia kinghorni (Australian Scrub Python) trying to eat a wallaby. They do that often. But I think it would have to be a bigger snake and/or smaller wallaby (and preferably without the crowd)
