Just fed bagheera her first adult mouse..

and she got bitten :( . I feel terrible. I told the guy at the pet store that she was eating hoppers and that she was looking very hungry 10 minutes after feeding her. He asked how big around she was and i showed him and he said that she could take an adult. So I put the mouse in the container i usually feed her in, she struck and barely got him on the side, coiled around him but his face was next to her body and she got bit on the neck. What do I do? I feel terrible.

try knocking it out next time or feeding f/t. How bad of a bite was it? I'll let someone else answer as far as healing goes, because I don't have any experience with that, but I'm pretty sure she'll be ok.

Is there even a mark? Is she bleeding?

If not, don't worry about it. All of my Ball Pythons, 50+, are fed live mice. I am sure to pre-scent the room for 30 minutes or so prior to feeding so they know what is going to happen and they can prepare themselves.

It is incredibly rare that someone gets bit here, if that. It may look like the mouse is biting her, but in reality is just gasping or just has its mouth on the snake's skin.

Be sure to pre-scent, don't remove any of her hides or disturb her enclosure or her in any way, drop the mouse on the OPPOSITE end of the enclosure that the snake is on, and don't HOVER. :) I generally open a tub, drop mouse in without getting bit in the face by said snake, and close the tub. On to the next tub, drop mouse in, so on and so forth. The snakes take care of business.

i actually prefer dangling them over their tubs and tanks and just let them come get em. ive never been bit even once while feeding like this either. and i also find that a lot of times they actually end up grabbing the head to where they cant bite them. and i have found it easier to switch them to f/t if you want later on.

Some one correct me if I am wrong. but use an antiseptic with out a numbing agent in it. If that makes sense, I can not think of the word to use.

NEVER dangle a live rodent by tongs.. It's very inhumane and painful. Do you want to introduce a scared, hurting, and confused rodent to your snake that could easily get bit, or a calm and curious rodent to your snake? Calm and curious won't get your snakes bit.

I have some adult females who come out of their tubs a good 2 feet and I've given up trying to get a rodent into their tubs. I just hold the holding tub of mice up to their tub and let them pick their own. Works better for me and them. After they get a mouse, I can gently pick them up and put them back into their tubs and close them up.

To feed live properly, grasp the mouse gently but firmly at the base of the tail by the butt, drop into the enclosure on the opposite end of the snake, and leave it alone. These snakes have millions of years of evolution under their spurs and don't need our help.

Neosporin? I'm almost sure I've read about someone using that on their snakes.

As for the bite, did it break the skin and is she bleeding? If not I wouldn't worry. I fed my normal male a young mouse and it ended up dying with his skin in it's mouth (it tried to bite him right before it died). The snake just pulled his skin out of the mouse's teeth once it was dead. No harm done at all, I think their skin is a lot tougher then we think.

there is actually a spot of scales that is missing from where the mouse bit her. Should I put neosporin on it? or an antibiotic ointment? thanks for the input

yes put neosporin on it, NON MEDICATED neosporin twice a day... If it starts to look infected take it to the vet....

Triple antibiotic ointment (neosporin) WITHOUT pain relievers are fine to use. The wound should shed out just fine...

No you don't. That would just me more for them(especially the adult granite female, EBIL!) to hone in on and attempt to bite/eat/eviscerate/whatever.

Plus, I feed in the dark with a flashlight in my mouth, wouldn't see a whole lot except for faces and teeth lashing into view every so often.

If there are just scales missing and no actual wound the antiseptic won't do anything.
