Got some deals today :))

well me and my buddy decided to go to repticon in SC last min today. was a great show and i ended up comin home with a few goodies.

well first off ive always just wanted to have a baby red tail and raise it up. so i got an '08 female. i talked him down to 35 from 65 lol, cuz thats all i had on me. shes also actually het striped too.


i also brought my year old male Colombian rainbow boa with me, because hes a really picky eater and bites everyone.. so was hoping i could trade him for just a young normal ball or a cool corn. well i was lookin at some ball morphs and noticed a really pretty normal male. then i read his box and he was 100% het pie. the owner noticed my interest and asked if i wanted to hold him, so i said sure pretty much knowing i couldnt afford it at the moment. then he said he give him to me for 150. i told him i just had spend all the cash i had on me on a red tail and it wasnt close to being enough anyway. then he asked about my rainbow boa and if i was looking to get rid of it. well im starting to ramble... anyway long story short i ended up trading it straight up for the het pie.... the guy didnt even take my rainbow out of his container to really give him a look or handle him... nor did he ask one question about it besides how old it was lol. so i feel like i ripped him off, but w/e his loss :PP.

annnywayyyy, he is one of the coolest looking normals i have now, and has some intense looking eyes! ill be sure to get some pics of him up soon

Nice....we had a rapid day of expansion too. Went to BHB to get 1.1 Blizz Corns, then to a bp.net members house for some ASF's turn ASF's + a new crested gecko (Thanks Shadi11), then to Pruess Pets back in Lansing to get some pinky mice which turned into a Rose Hair Tarantula as well.

Congrats on the new additions. However, it sounds to me like you may have received your animal from a less than reputable vendor. If he didn't even "take my rainbow out of his container to really give him a look or handle him... nor did he ask one question about it besides how old it was", then who's to say that 30 minutes before you walked up, or even at the last show, he didn't trade a couple Leopard Geckos for that Het Pied, and didn't even look at it or ask questions about it. I am not saying he is bad, but it would concern me that the vendor was not concerned enough to give a quick look at an animal that he is putting into contact with his other stock or collection. It just doesn't sound like a good prctice, or a responsible herper.

Yeah, that crossed my mind too, but the actual owner of him was busy writing up a very large order for another customer. He had a guy working with him who first was helping me out with the trade and he went over and showed him my boa while he was busy with the big sale. He actually didn't even know what it was... he asked the vendor next to him him how much he thought it was worth and then he just said ok what the hell. Was bot but 20 min left in the show either, so could have had something to do with it.

either way, he seems like a very healthy snake and he pounded a med rat when i got him home :)

well snapped a few pics of them today. my new 2 month old retail girl, shes the sweetest thing and loves to be held. and i got some of the het pie male locked with my f1 captive hatched wild caught girl. the hets the darker of the two. ill get some more picks of him whenever they unlock later.

Congrats on the new additions, and I hope they do well for you, but you seem to be asking for trouble by getting the little guy from someone who doesn't seem to practice much in the way of QT, then skipping your own QT. I hope the breeder did have that boy for a while, and hadn't just picked him up, then passed him on to you. No bashing intended, it just seems a bit foolhearty.

Both new additions are lookers btw. I've had the RTB itch for quite some time now :P

well you guys are obviously more experienced than me so im going to start taking all the advice i can get. but i got the f1 girl from a good guy who two of my best friends have gotten some of there breeder chams from and have come to trust. and he insured me that she was healthy. and as far as the het goes, the guy i got him from said he had had him for a few months and hadnt had any problems either.

but yeah, you guys are definatly right, i know you cant always trust everyone, cuz honestly i think 40% of people at shows are just there to make a buck and will tell you just about anything to make a sale.

so yeah from now on i will for sure be QTing my new breeders.

they are all 3 eating great also, and aren't the slightest bit picky :D.

to put a snake you just bought with your female without quaruntine is a huge no no. i hope it turns out the snake is fine because if not them you might just lose them both over the mistake. you really should have taken the advice given when you had the chance but you just shrugged it off and hooked them together anyways so i would basically say no need to stop and take their advice now you should have done so to begin to avoid something happening if the one you got could actually have health problems when i agree with all others if you think you got a steal because he didnt even check your boa then most likely you are the one that got the bad end of the deal lol and to be honest i myself would not have ever traded my boa for it not even knowing if it is a het pie. im sure alot of crooks would love to see you coming if u will buy or trade for an animal that is what ever they want to name it and most likely its probably just a normal ball.

It's definately a good idea to QT any new animal in the house...even if you trust the person you got them from. Sometimes there can even be quite a difference between what they thing and what you think 'healthy' is. And everyone makes mistakes...it would suck if someone made a mistake with an animal, and then something from that got passed on to one of their buyers.

I'm glad the new boy is doing well for you, but you should probably get a fecal on him at least, to be sure he doesn't have any parasites. Even if the guy you got him from is completely honest, parasites don't always show up in just a few months.

*psst* It's het. pied not pie. Not picking on anyone, just have seen it several times recently and thought I would mention it. I hope that is what it said on the box...if he doesn't know the name of the morph it may not be a het. at all.... =/

Also did the vendor give you any paperwork on the snake? Like a picture document stating he was a pied het that was signed with his company name on it?

ha and no he didnt. but either way, i was actually goin to trade my boa pluss 10bux to another vondor for a normal that was 200g's less... so imo i still came out on top. het or not i got a nice looking ball that actually eats and doesn't tag me every time i get my hand 6iches from it like my boa did..
