    Baby Sand Boas!!
Our first baby snakes have arrived! I was hoping my sand boas would breed for me this year, and I suspected that my female has been gravid for a while, but I wasn't entirely sure until Wednesday evening. I checked on her when I went to my building to feed geckos and she had a very large lump pretty far down on her body rather than the overall fat look that she's been sporting. I was hoping that meant babies were on the way! I fed the geckos and about half an hour later I checked on her again. No more lump - now there were 11 babies in there with her! Boy, was that fast! I was sorry that I missed the actual birth, but couldn't be happier with the babies! They are so sweet! Mom looks great and is doing very well!

The pictures are pretty dark or washed out by the flash. The babies are all in shed as well, but such cute little things! I'll get better pics after they shed.
    Anyway, here they are!

Very cool. I don't know much about sand boas, but I do have an inkling to get some! lol. Do they shed right after birth like the Dumerils?

    Thanks! :D

I'm not sure how long it will be until they shed - but it looks like it will be soon.

I really enjoy our sand boas - and my kids absolutely love them! The whole live birth thing was awesome, too!

Have you had any problems getting your babies started?

They've all shed and eight of the eleven have now had their first meal. I picked up some mice from a friend (time to get back into mouse breeding) and the first litter was 7 babies, so I was a little short on live pinkies. One of the others took f/t, the other three did not. I'll try them all on f/t next feeding, then I should have some more live pinkies for any holdouts.

In the last three years of breeding the parents of your baby I have not had a single baby refuse its first meal.

    Eating machines they are.

That's certainly true, Wes! That Momma is an amazing eating machine! She has never refused a meal - even just before the babies were born! We're having so much fun with these snakes - both the parents and the babies! :D
