    Very terrible news
Well my female Axanthic hasn't ate since I got her from daytona. I contacted the breeder, who will not be named, to tell him she isn't eating. I tried moving into a smaller rack, tried pinky rats hopper mice and fuzzies nothing worked. She had no intrest in any of the food iteams i showed her,so yesterday I was really worried she was sevrealy under weight 46grams and so dull in color, with loss skin folds.I assist fed her I had to push the fuzzy mouse more then half way in, for about 15 mins she just sat there and then slowly ate it within another 20mins.She seemed fine and just whent to sleep.I checked on her a few hours ago to find her dead in the rack container.I feel so bad for the poor thing,I'am so depressed. You get attched to these beautiful animals, and try the best you can to make thier lives the best, and in a blink of an eye there gone. All my snakes I intend to keep/breed ect. I grow a bond with them.I have had other snakes die,but not this young she barely got a taste of life.during the time she was alive I bet she suffer since she did not eat at such a young age.My guess of how old she was is probly 3-6weeks when I got her.Well atleast she is in a better place.:(

What a sad story :( I am sorry for your loss.

I know the feeling when they are getting very skinny like that, its not fun to watch them withering away while you feel there is nothing more you can do. I hatched out a few snakes that didn't start eating very well. I had to assist 3 of them like you did. One still is not eating on its own but it is starting to fill out now.

I'm terribly sorry for your loss! Some little ones are just never meant to make it, unfortunately. Which is why I'm always surprised to see breeders selling them at such young ages. I'd feel a lot better buying from someone who has seen the snake eat at least a few times. :tears:

Did you mean to say "het axanthic" in your original post? Because the pic you show is of a normal looking baby. Regardless of genetics though....the loss is the same. I'm sorry.

No its an axanthic but thats how much it has dulled, I brought it to one of the local breeders her yesterday, she put it next to a older axanthic you could tell it was an axanthic just so dull.

I'm terribly sorry to hear about your loss. It's very unfortunate this had to happen. She's so tiny and so cute :tears: You did what you could to help her out, so she was lucky to be with you the short time she was

looking at the pictures I don't think she needed to be assist fed yet.
Here is a mojave i have been assisting. This is after eating 3 meals in 3 months.
it got much skinnier than this picture.

So sorry to read of the loss of this young snake.

If you don't mind me asking what sort of feeding history information did the breeder supply you with on this hatchling as far as how often she'd eaten and what type/size of prey she'd successfully taken for him/her (the breeder you bought from).

Wow, I'm really sorry to hear about that. Did the breeder sell her as having eaten already? I would question that for sure. At any rate it is a terrible loss and I'm sorry to hear it.

Just a little side note, from what I've seen of pricing lately, that seems quite steep even for a pair of axanthics just MHO.

I'm so sorry. I can't imagine how hard it must be to have that little life in your hands and then lose it. I know I had a mini panic attack just over not getting the heat and humidity right, so I know it must be much worse. If there's anything we can do, let us know. And good luck with the breeder.

Well the breeder told us at daytona she has eaten on rat fuzzies, but she looked way to small for them,so I asked if he ment pinkies he said no and that was that.

Today my mom and I called him after just telling him what happen, not even asking for a refund or replace, just stateing that she is dead we took her to a local breeder, and she even said that animal looks like it has never eaten. He insaluted my mom and I's intellagince on snakes since we have only been doing this for 5-8years,and he has for 30years,My mom told him "yes I understand you just insaulted me and my son...Then he insulted my mom and hung up......

Yeah no more needed to be said

At this point I would go to his website and see what kind of guarentees he specifies. I would also post on the BOI everything that has occured. Further more, only contact him thru email from this point forward so you have written documentation of all that goes on from this point forward. It has been less than 30 days right? I would ask for a refund. He obviously misrepresented his animal. An animal does not starve to death in that short a period of time. That is why I provide detailed records for each animal I sell, even at shows.

As of this point I still will not state his company, but its getting really close to the point of I will.

Sorry to hear about that Chris. I was late posting because I just found out about this. Let me know if we can do anything for you. I hope you can get something a little better out of the breeder in the near future. I don't think he handled the situation very well.

Daytona was 8/24 correct? Now it's 11/1. So that's a full two months you've had her. I would not expect a refund of any sort. If she was a non-feeder, I feel you should have asked for a refund before now. Yes, she never ate, but you had her in your possesion for 8 weeks, and I'm not certain how long a guarentee is supposed to run.
I'd say that perhaps the breeder could have volunteered something, or volunteered something before she died, like offering a refund for the snake back... but I'm not sure I would say he/she is "obligated" to refund after 8 weeks.
I'm very sorry for your loss, she looks like she was a lovely snake.

I am sorry for your loss but I gotta ask -- it's been 2 months since Daytona, did you contact the breeder at all to express your concerns or try to work out a way to get the snake feeding or maybe arrange for a replacement or did you just contact the breeder after the snake died? Due to the time of year a lot of fresh hatchlings are at the show but if the snake was upward of 4 weeks old it could well have been feeding regularly at the breeders facility prior to being sold. That doesn't excuse the breeders reaction -- but if you didn't contact him for two months I'm not sure what you expect him to do? And it does sound like you were accusatory in nature. I could be reading the situation wrong and if so I apologize. :weirdface

I contacted him about 2-4weeks before she died.I expressed that I'am worried about her she looks fine at the moment but she has showed no intrest in her food. Then about a week before she died she looked horrible so I took her to a local breeder, and her assumtion was that snake looks like it has never eaten. Then we are here. Also I had no intentions of asking for a refund or exchanged, but the fact of him being a well know'd breeder and being such a jerk to us is were I'am really mad at.

Sorry for your loss. That happened to me with my very first snake. Granted I didn't know what I was doing and I joined this site for some help. She didn't eat once for me and was a very young baby. I started assist feeding her and finally after 3 months she ate her first meal on all her own....and died just like yours :( It is terribly sad when that happens.
