That is true, unfortunately :(
Thankfully my only blaze is just a runt and megecolon free ^^
I'm actually a bit suspicious on if he's REALLY a runt or one of those quirky miniature rats. I'm crossing my fingers for runt/smaller pup. Both mom and dad were kinda small...perhaps he just has some catching up to do.

How old is he? Megacolon doesn't show up until weaning. I just lost a rat to megacolon. I aquired a siamese female that was already gravid. She had two high whites, one a dalmation, the other a banded blue blazed. The blazed did not get megacolon (probably carries it though) and the dalmation has it now, she is about 4 1/2 weeks. I will be taking pics and then feeding her off. :( She was a sweet pretty girl and i am so sad about this horrible disease...

They are adorable! I want a brown rat . . . I don't have any in my colonies.

Megacolon is more likely to show up after weaning, but there are two causes for megacolon which can show up early or late. Severe cases show up before weaning, but most cases are after the rat has started to eat solids.
Then there is late onset megacolon, which would be heart breaking to witness after you've grown so attached to an animal after a period of time.
It's all a risk. Some blazed/high white animals don't carry it but the chances are much higher. On the flip side, some non-high white animals carry it.
For high white marked animals, is it worth the risk?
