Please talk me into getting a Blood!
I've wanted a blood forever but haven't come to the place of getting one yet. I've over 30 years of snake experience and I can feel myself teetering on the edge of blood ownership. Should I :D or shouldn't I :colbert: Help!!!!!:taz:

Re: Please talk me into getting a Blood!
You should buy a Blood Python.:gj::D

Re: Please talk me into getting a Blood!
You shouldn't.
Simple decision. If you have any doubts, then you should not acquire a living creature. Maybe there's some deep seated knowledge of something upcoming, or maybe you kind of think deep down that you DO want a blood.. but you want a ivory blood, so you want to wait and save for it.
I think you should continue looking into them, and thinking about it. When you are ready for one, then all the blood lovers on here will go nuts with you, congradulating you on your new pet. I like black bloods myself, but I don't feel it's the right time for me to get one right now. Maybe you are similar?
Just my opinion.

of course if you're gonna get one.. go NERD.. omg.. gorgeous.

Re: Please talk me into getting a Blood!
If you have 30 yrs experience and really want one I say get one. I would recommend Kara@NERD or VPI for bloods. You can't go wrong either way. Now go hurry up so we can see some pictures! LOL
Good luck:)

Re: Please talk me into getting a Blood!
I was in the same boat, but make sure you think about the snake when its full grown, make sure you will be able to afford to feed it and house it in the proper cage. But other then that i bought my first blood like 5 months ago feel in love just orderd my third :D:D:D They really are great snakes !!!!!!!!!!

Re: Please talk me into getting a Blood!
If you're really not sure then I agree that I don't think you should get one. I have wanted a blood for at least a year now, but I have made myself wait because I just don't feel that I can handle the responsibility now with my four other snakes. I've promised myself I can have one when I graduate and get my own place, but until then, no.
Sometimes going and talking to people who have them, or holding one that belongs to someone else may help you make up your mind.

Re: Please talk me into getting a Blood!
I let the blood do the talking that's what got me ;)
Seriously, I have been thinking about blood for a good while and handling an adult female (thanks to Kara ) is what won me over, now all I have to do is to wait for someone to produce my future baby ;)

Re: Please talk me into getting a Blood!
I would say go for it. As long as you are comfortable that you can take care of it properly then I see no reason why not. Just do it. Then post lots of fancy pictures. :D:D

Heck if he did that he would definitely get one lol. They really are sweet snakes I don't know why people have this fear of them or think that they will be difficult to care for. Only difference is size and medusa' stare lol. I agree though if your not sure then wait.

What is it exactly that is holding you back? Perhaps if you tell us we can tell you more of what you need to know and then you can make a better decision. :)

The price of the animal is one thing, you need to keep in mind that this will not be your only expense, feeding, housing (4X2 cage) and possible vet bills are another.
Do some research and make sure this is the right snake for you.

Re: Please talk me into getting a Blood!
I have never really paid that close attention to blood pythons. I saw a couple at the Sacramento Reptile Show in September and became seriously interested.
I got to hold a full grown black female and was surprised at how docile and beautiful she was.
If you have the experience and the room - go for it!

Re: Please talk me into getting a Blood!
Thanks everyone!! I should have told you about myself a little more. I have an open and available boaphile cage. I've been involved with herps for years and have raised hundreds of corns. I've bred Savus along with rosies and bulls. I'm currently working with boas exclusively. I really love them. The title, "Please talk me into getting a Blood!", is more ragging on myself than anything. I will be getting a blood. :) Just don't know when. I have really appreciated the responses and encouragement. Especially the ones that suggested where the nice ones could be found. I'm used to having my face nearly ripped off by Savus but I would still rather have a docile Blood. I don't want to breed it, just want a nice one for the collection. You guys are great! Thanks again!

Before you know it you'll be selling of your boas one by one for more bloods, lol.

Re: Please talk me into getting a Blood!
If you can 100% care for a blood, have the time and the money, the patience and willingness to take on board the information to better serve you and your snake(s) then its something worthwhile and rewarding.
However if you have any doubts I would hold off, personally I think if you really want something its pretty obvious from the get go,and not something you should look for people to convince you to do.
If you decide for sure you want one best of luck, you certainly have good background of experience to let you gel well with a bloods habits and individual persona's they have.
