My new Sulpher.
Picked up this sulpher ball from Tim Bailey down in Tinley park this last weekend. The Sulphers are a newly proven out line of fireball that will produce Black eyed Leucistics as the super form. I don't know how they were proven out, if a sulpher was bred back to another sulpher or if a sulpher was bred to a fire, but in any case the homozygous form is a Black eyed Lucy. It should be interesting to see what happens with this line in years to come.
He's kind of on the shy side.

fairly white belly pattern and you can see the markings on his head

another one with the head markings.

Other then the head markings and looking a bit more yellow, he looks pretty normal.

Re: My new Sulpher.
Handsome snake! And coming from Tim, I've no doubts at all that it is what Tim says it is. But I can't help but ask....what makes a sulpher a sulpher? Lots of normals have funky markings on their heads and/or a bit more color. I'd almost want to call something like that a "Het Black Eyed Lucy" rather than giving it its own distinct morph name. But then again....I know there are subtle morphs that really experienced keepers/breeders can pick out without any trouble....so I guess this is one of those. I just wish I knew how to tell!
In any case....congrats! I hope we see some Black Eyes in your near future!

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm not at all worried about it, I've got some paperwork from Tim Guaranteeing the genetics but I do have a number of balls in my collection that look a lot like him. Tim did say that they get better and better looking with each shed.
I don't know a whole lot about the history of this line. I believe that the originator is a guy by the name of Dave Reid out of California. He picked up an old mature female for a real cheap price at a pet store years ago. He thought at the time that she was a fireball, but since she wasn't proven he couldn't really call her that. He made claims of her being a fire on various forums and took a lot of grief for it. (I think I might have been one of those giving him grief for it too....:oops::oops:) But he did sell some to another breeder who turned around and produced some amazing looking crosses with mojaves and other morphs. It was just recently, and I don't know by who, that they were proven to in fact be het black eyed Leucistics. Maybe someone else can chime in with the rest of the story.
I would imagine when it finally comes time to breed him, I'll be bugging Tim over and over with the same question.... 'Is this one?' 'Is this one?' 'Is this one?'

Re: My new Sulpher.
Eric Sandoval proved them out a few weeks ago -- I believe he bred two sulfur mojaves together and got two different Black Eyed Lucys.
This is the super sulpher:

Like a fire they clean up other morphs when combined and now the super has finally been proven. Congrats Mark, looks like a very exciting project:gj:

Congrats Mark. I do not have alot of time tonight, but I will take some pics this week, and post them up. I will take a pic of my original sulpher, and some other pics of some sulpher females and normal females. My original male has gotten lighter as he ages, but I also held back 2 females this year that are unmistable.
I would get more into the history, but I think Tosha and David Reid himself have already covered the basics.
Again, congrats Mark, I think you will be happy with that guy.

LOL, yup. I've been misspelling it.... Sulfur or the UK version 'Sulphur' would be the correct spellings.
With as many times as I've corrected other peoples spelling, I should get kicked in the seat of the pants for that.... :O:O:O:O:O:D:D:D

Re: My new Sulpher.
So if both the sulpher and the fire produce black eyed lucys, and they both get lighter with age, then what is the difference?
-
Re: My new Sulpher.
I assume they are allelic, but not exactly the same--just like black pastel and cinnamon, and mojave and lesser. The two animals look different from one another, and the combo morphs they create look different but their super forms are essentially the same, and they can be bred to one another to produce the super form.
