GRRR People make me really PO'd!!
Sorry, but Im pretty pissed right now.. A few months back we were in a bind and found that we couldent afford our Bearded Dragon anymore- he cost us more in a year than our two dogs and all of the snakes and rats combined- so even though it hurt really bad, we found him a great home and that was that. We were really tore up because he was just a lover an loved getting attention- and would actually play with our dogs!! lol

We had a adoption fee for him, but changed our minds when we saw he home he was going to have, so we gave Reggie (the BD) to him for free along with my custom 55gal slider, cricket keeper, vitamins, a ramp, a basking rock (that was out of my personal 'rock collection' lol), the outdoor cage we built ourselves for him, and everything else. All we asked is that if anything happens to him or if they for some reason can not keep him then to let us know and we can take him back.

So fast forward to today.. Im sitting here, bored, and decided to go on craigslist.. First post at the top- http://detroit.craigslist.org/pet/883132430.html ... Its him. No doubt in my mind- at all... and I like the $150 "adoption fee", consitering we GAVE him to them..I actually e-mailed them to just be like, " OK, I understand that hes yours now, but that is just really dissapointing to me that you guys would do that.." then I said a lot more, but pretty much my message was to find him a awesome home.. Havent gotten a reply yet, just sent it...But Im just so mad!!

Im sorry.. But I just had to let out some steam... Im really hurt by this- we all are, and I just had to get it out...

That is very disappointing indeed. I'm sorry that has happened to you. Many people are looking for things on Craig's list (and elsewhere) just to resell and make a profit. Many people on this site have obtained nice animals from Craig's list but I am very leery of it as far as animals are concerned.

eh, yuck, they are offering him up with a heatpad...BIG nono His cage is also too small for a beardie of that size. Im sorry to hear about that, did you see why they are selling him?

That would really upset me too!

We took a meditation class a few years back and I was a bit put off by what the teacher charged for these classes. My husband said to me that people will take it a bit more seriously if they have a financial investment in it. It makes total sense to me today. I wonder if you'd have charged them an adoption fee if they would have still put him up for sale so shortly after.

I hope the good vibe you got from them initially is accurate and they offer to give him back to you.

I understand you feel betrayed by the whole thing, but when you give someone an animal it becomes their property to do with as they please within the confines of the law. If you didn't have a contract giving you first option of refusal in the event they want/need to get rid of him there's nothing you can say or do about it.

That's why dog breeders will often have a first right of refusal built into the contract. So no one can do what has been done here without repercussion.

I know this is besides the point a little, but how on earth did one bearded dragon cost you more per year than your two dogs and other animals combined?

Very sad that they have a 3 year old daughter and don't know the difference between 'are' and 'our', or how to spell daughter and picked for that matter. They just sound like a bunch of dimwits.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I also ask all adoptive homes to contact me if they can longer care for the animal. But I think sometimes people may feel embarassed to return the animal, etc. Maybe they are only pretending to require an adoption fee to weed out weirdos. I always do this and then give the animal away when I find the right home.

And I know how expensive Beardies can be when properly cared for. I currently have a trio, all around 6 months old, and I must've spent close to a $1,000 on set ups, vet exams, etc. & I am spending around $80/mo. feeding them (& I have a very reasonable reptile store close by with great prices). My 3 dogs cost me $50/month to feed (& I feed organic food, etc.).

wow...that's really disappointing. I'm sorry that happened. I wonder if they will reply back or tell you why they are giving him up. I'd be pretty po'd too.

Yeah, this situation sucks! And I hope you are able to get him back. I would be very angry.

But I am curious too... How the heck does one beardie cost more then all that!!!

How long do you want us to wait before we start sending this guy nasty messages?

I'm with ya...only in addition to that, can we set up appointments to see him & then not show? Let's see how much of their time we can waste!
I also agree that even though it is their property now, if they agreed to give you the option of taking him back, they should keep their word. Whatever happened to the "gentleman's agreement?" Doesn't anyone's WORD mean anything anymore?
I can say I know how you feel as far as getting the pet back & not charging them the re-homing fee because you thought he was going to a good home. I put one of my dogs on CL & checked out a few people before deciding on one family. I wasnt going to take anything because I felt they were the perfect family. They allow me to keep in contact & if needed I told them I would dog-sit for them. Thankfully I had a positive experience. I wish you had.
