More than Normal? Im new can you help?
hey yall, im new to the site and new to ownin a BP. I just got her monday i believe. Everything is great! i love her to death and probably the best animal ive ever owned, and best snake ive ever handled....but im kinda curious...
I got her from a local pet store she is 10 weeks old i believe they said. I only paid 40 bucks for her as a normal. But i picked her out of the 3 they had because she was lighter and color and much prettier i thought, and for some reason i always like being and having the odd ball. I found this site the other day and love it. I had no idea about all the different morphs i was only familiar with a handful. Now that ive been looking around i think my BP looks similar do pics of different morphs on here. I may be completly wrong but just wanted yalls opions.

Re: More than Normal? Im new can you help?
It's kind of hard to tell with the quality of the pictures. Is there any way you could try to get some other pics? It's highly doubtful that any snake you find in a pet store is going to be a morph (but it has happened lol) since they have to go through so many hands before they get to the store. The first or second picture make it look kind of like a ghost/hypo but again can't really be sure lol. At any rate she looks like a very nice looking normal! Congrats and :welcome: to the site!
Re: More than Normal? Im new can you help?
yeah she looks like a normal to me.. she reminds me of my pixel. She's light in color too but next to my pastel she's dark as heck. Welcome in!! ya know the funny part is that everyone (including myself) who gets a ball from a pet store comes home and sees all the morphs and then wonders"is my snake a morph? LOL it's histerical... once agian WELCOME and you have got a great snake

Re: More than Normal? Im new can you help?
well ill try and take some better pics with my camera later on. I took those off my phone. wasnt expecting it to be anything special, i just noticed she was different than the others that the store had, and theres seems to be a TON of morphs. Im just curious.
Re: More than Normal? Im new can you help?
She looks like a nice normal, enjoy growing her up.
Re: More than Normal? Im new can you help?
Re: More than Normal? Im new can you help?
She is a normal, but she IS beautiful. Wicked flames.
Re: More than Normal? Im new can you help?
she has some awesome faded pattern, and wicked blushing! would be nice to breed her to a pstel and get a nice especially blushed pastel!
Re: More than Normal? Im new can you help?
She looks like a really nice normal! I'm wondering about her belly, the black runs along most of her belly  She's got fantastic flames, definitely a keeper!
Re: More than Normal? Im new can you help?
Full belly shot? Or at least more than that?
She's definitely a normal, but if she has a completely clear belly, that's a really nice specimen for a normal. :]
Re: More than Normal? Im new can you help?
I will and get a belly shot up tomorrow. Not to change the subject but on a side note what are yall expecting to pay for pastels? I'd like to by another snake now and maybe breed them in a few years. But I don't want to buy an older snake later on. And the only Morphs I can find some what local are albinos and piebald and they want 900 and 2k for them at 10wks old.
Re: More than Normal? Im new can you help?
Pastel males usually run around $100-200 as babies. They are a great starter morph because they are inexpensive and they produce visual morphs rather than hets. Females are a little more maybe $50 more on average. I picked mine up from a friend, he's a got a few more pastels left, they are from the NERD line of pastels and he's asking around $150 with shipping. So don't overpay! Unless you are looking for something really specific you can get really nice pastels for a decent price.
Re: More than Normal? Im new can you help?
Im not familiar with any blood line names or anything but im asuming NERD is just a good line of snakes? do any of yall buy your snakes online? if so how safe is it? i didnt know till i got on here that you could have snakes shipped to you. i figured itd stress them out to much....any way if it can be done wheres a good place for a quality snake. i really want a nice pastel male. and is your friend selling them still? how would i go about getting in touch with him?
Re: More than Normal? Im new can you help?
I've bought all but a couple of my snakes online, it's fine--just be sure that you ask questions about how the snakes will be shipped! Make sure they'll be using a carrier that knows what's in the box, and that it will be properly labeled, and include a heat pack if it's cold.
NERD is New England Reptile Distributers, a big breeder of ball pythons and other snakes.
A lot of the big breeders have developed their own lineages of selectively bred ball pythons morphs. Graziani pastels look different from NERD pastels, for example.
The key to remember with pastels: Orange on hatchlings will generally turn to brown on adults, and adult pastels can be very brown.
Re: More than Normal? Im new can you help?
NERD is one of the best breeders out there. I don't think they have any pastels available right now but you can always call Kevin and see. Their phone # is on their website. Expect to pay more though if you buy directly from them since you are paying for the name as well as for the quality of the animals they produce. I got my spider from them and I am so happy with him. I did pay more than I would if I had gotten him online but in the end the quality of the animal and the fact that I was able to just go pick him out and not have to pay shipping made up for it big time.
Re: More than Normal? Im new can you help?
thanks for the help everyone, this is really a great site to get on and get help. alot of forums bash on the new guys who dont know much lol....but i will look into those NERDS and i think i might have found a decent site too that someone else on here recomended.
And as far as my snake goes, i tried gettin more pics of her belly today. but couldnt get much more than i already have on here. Shes a bit of a camera hog i suppose, as soon as i get the camera out she just want to put her face in it till i put it away, and isnt bothered by it at all. guess its good until i need to get some belly pics. but her stomach is pretty much identical all the way up.
Re: More than Normal? Im new can you help?
Nice normal! Welcome to the forum!
Re: More than Normal? Im new can you help?
I have a Graziani line pastel descendent. Didn't brown out and is just a sweetheart of a snake.
But look at a few lines, check out a few sites, you'll get a feel for what is nice and what appeals to you and what the market price is.
I paid well above market price for my guy, but I felt it was worth it. So depends on what you're looking for.
And your BP looks like a nice normal. Even better is a nice normal with an attentive keeper. Best thing any BP could have.
Welcome to the site. We like to talk about snakes btw. :)

Re: More than Normal? Im new can you help?
I PMed you :D
I love this site too! Everyone is soooooo helpful. If you're ever looking to buy online, just ask people on here if they have bought from that person before and what they think. More than likely someone will know the breeder :gj:
Re: More than Normal? Im new can you help?
Again i love this site, yall are very helpful and friendly. Thanks for all the help. and I ABSOLUTLY LOVE my BP. She is the best animal i have ever owned.
I am still lookin around on other sites, and its crazy how many different types of snakes are out there. and they are all so goodlooking. and as far as paying market price, i dont feel to bad spending a little extra for better quality, i try to get good deals on everything but im a firm believer of you get what you pay for.
