Nowhere, yet! We keep a close eye on her when she is out of her enclosure.

I'm very happy to report that I cannot share any escape stories - I've never had an escape, I make sure all my enclosures are secure to prevent escapes! ;)

A have a snake room where I put my ball python once in a while to let him explore... He loves it.

So his favorite place to hide is in the clothes. He hides in the girls clothes in their desk (I'm french... I don't remember the correct word).

Mine went under her tank when she figured out how to open the sliding top. Now she's in a homemade wooden cage and hasn't gotten loose once!!

One of my leopard geckos got out once, I'm really not sure how... found her between my mattress when I went to move them, they had been leaning against my wall for a day while we did stuff to the floor and she was all the way up in the middle of them - glad I didn't squish her!

In my hands... I thought I lost my black pastel and after a few seconds of looking around his tub I noticed I still had him in my hands:oops:

i had him near my feet while i was on the computer, and didn't watch him for about 30 seconds, POOF! gone. He was in the bookshelf, INSIDE of a photo album binder. He was about 400g, 2 feet.

Oh, also I had a corn get into a weird fish tank rock that had really small, deep crevases. Impossible to get her out without harming. I just turned it upside down and filled it with water. She shot right out - advice if you are ever in that situation.

I had a corn escape and it was gone for about 4 months. We had given up hope until one day while letting the dog in from outside I saw it trying to get in from outside. Only problem was the 6" of snow and the 20F temps. I dont know where it was and how it survived those temps, but it is thriving at this point.

Re: Funniest place your ball python got away too
A couple of weeks ago Peyton (my BIG boy) escaped and slithered down the hall and got under the boiler. The boiler happens to be by the washer & dryer and I was doing laundry when I saw him staring at me. I was like WTF???? I didn't even know he got out!!! So I went to check his tank to make sure I wasn't crazy. Sure enough he was not in there. So I go back to the boiler to try to get him and he slithered all the way under the darn thing! Where he was I couldn't get to him so we decided to drain the boiler to flush him out - to no avail! Well the valve on the boiler broke probably because it hasn't been used in 40+ years so the water kept coming! Grrrrr! Went to the store to get a new fitting to fix the stooopid thing and while I was there my kids called... The got him!!! Yeah!! Unharmed and covered in cobwebs! Meg & Tyler laid on the floor and just waited for him to poke his head out and when he did - Meg scooped in and grabbed him! I was sooo proud of her...Peyton is my aggressive one and the kids are a bit cautious around him, but Meg was more worried about him getting burned by the pilot than about herself getting bit :P

I'll tell ya....you can THINK your tub is secure and be wrong about it. That happened to me and my big girl (about 1500g) escaped her tub last winter or early spring...I don't remember exactly. It happened in the night while we were all sleeping, so I didn't find out about it until much later the next morning.

As I searched for her, I discovered a trail of destruction in the kitchen pantry. The door had been left open and she went in there and somehow climbed up onto the different shelves and knocked over several cans and boxes of stuff onto the floor. She even left a nice little puddle of urine in the middle of the stuff on the floor to make sure I knew who did it. Found her a few minutes later in the hall closet around the corner from the kitchen (and on the other side of the house from where her tub was located). She'd had herself quite an adventure that night!

(We had no other critters that roamed the house at the time, so I know for sure it wasn't a cat or dog or something that hit the pantry that night!)

EDIT: I remember when she did that....it was actually over a year ago, because she did it on my birthday! Can't believe that much time has passed since then.....I miss my girl!!! :(

On one of the top shelves of my desk about 6 feet off the ground hiding in between some CDs. God knows how she got there. I covered my entire house in flour for 24 hours and try and find her trail and also left a rat in the middle of the room for half the day. They tend not to get too far away from their tank but she traveled half the distance of my room and missed all the likely places you'd expect a snake to go.

UGH. I wish I could say I had just one... but I blame it on my disaster rack. Which I eventually dismantled, but before that there was...

    LOST SNAKE 1:

I was watching TV one night and my partner was doing laundry... I heard "And what might you be doing in here?"... followed by... "I do not think that would be in your best interest!" ... then a pause... and then... "THERE IS A SNAKE IN THE LAUNDRY ROOM AND IT WANTS TO EAT MY FACE!!!"

I go in and sure enough, there is Jules on top of the hot water tank, in a nice perfect S staring down at the would be meal. The would be meal weighs around 190lbs...

Disclaimer: No Frenchmen were eaten during the making of this anecdote.

    Lost Snake 2:

I had a friend in from out of town and we'd been out... and by out... I mean OUT(!). So I come in and as I am getting ready for bed I notice that Olive's tub is ajar and that she managed to wiggle her fat self between the tub and the rack and squeezed out.

I run to the front room, do 3 quick dashes around the loft, cannot find her so I figure it is best to wake up my guest... he strolls over and stands beside me and asks... I explain there is a lost snake and that we really need to find it (I was not fit to find the floor let alone a snake mind you)... he looks down. Sighs heavily and says "this snake?"

Sure enough the Big 'O' was at my feet looking in the same direction that I was. I assume she was also looking for herself.

Tragic part... I was standing in the middle of a very large room with nothing around me, well except a 3 kg - 5 ft snake.

Lost Snake 3... (Seriously, despite how it looks I am an attentive keeper).

One night I had a dream there was a snake on my pillow... and that it was a pink snake named Violaine... yeah, you're smart, you can see where this is going...

    Her own house.

I had her out on the bed with me, and got up to go get a drink. Came back a little bit later (made myself a snack while I was out there) and she's gone. I looked through all the covers and all over the place, before I saw her peeking out of her own hide. I'd left her tub open and on the floor, and she put herself to bed.

How's that for an awesome snake?

went on vacation, after 3 days of me being gone, George decided to go find me....

I had my neighbor watch my house & pets. she called me frantic saying--- George is GONE!!! I wasn't too worried... but my poor cats were scared & frightened to death!! they stayed in my bedroom, main bathroom.

I came home a week later, still haven't found George. My neighbor had all the other neighbors in my house.. LOOKING for him!
Day later, I was on the phone with a friend, thinking.... & guess what? I decided to look all the way in the bottom of my sons toy box. Guess who I found... GEORGE, all curled up cool to the touch, about to shed!! He hissed at me. I gave him a luke warm bath, & placed him back in his home.:snake:

I took my snake out to feed him a mouse and the mouse got away under the dresser in my room. since the dresser was the stand for a 115 gallon fish tank i couldnt really move it. i tried to coax the mouse out every way i could think of so my hungry snake could feed. i went down stairs to get a piece of cheese and i came up and to my amazement my snake had gone under there, found the unexpecting mouse and was already swallowing it. My little hunter :). however after eating the snake retreated deeper under the dresser and it took another hour to get him out, i eventually crushed a box so it would fit under the dresser and put it strategicly next to the snake using an unraveled hanger. i then agitated the snake so that he would move into the box which i then pulled out.

My first, and possibly most loved, ball python got out and stuffed him self into the DARKEST corner of the base board heater in my old apartment.

I tore the place apart for two weeks. Then one day I was looking under my bed and HEY! It's Monty! (such an overused name, I know xD )

I was so happy I cuddled him for a good four hours. He's never gotten out since. ^^

Re: Funniest place your ball python got away too
Back in the "old days" when I had my first clutch and built my first hatchling rack I had an escape of a male and female hatchling.

I found the female hatchling next to the heating vent in the floor almost right away but for the life of me couldn't find the male in the snake room. After tearing the whole room apart I moved to the next room in the house fearing the worst.

After frantically searching for another hour or so and pulling things out of the bedroom I just happen to open the top drawer of my nightstand where my unmentionables reside and get a surprise....the little guy is curled up next to them.

Nearest I can figure the two ran off together and things got hot and heavy so he ran to the "store" (my nightstand) for protection and after getting there decided she wasn't worth it....probably because she was his sister. :D

    Great stories guys!

I used to have a pastel male who would escape at EVERY opportunity. Well one day I went to check on him to find he wasn't there. At this time I'd had him in my bedroom while the others were downstairs so I ended up tearing my room apart to find him. After 2 hours of searching I looked at my night stand, which I had moved a couple times in trying to find him, and I started opening the drawers and sure enough in the top draw there he was staring up at me like "HEY! SHUT THE DOOR!". I snatched him up, put him in his cage, put like 4 big books on top of it, and went to target to buy a tub :p.

I haven't had that problem yet but I did notice the other day the lid wasn't on that tight. I even went to bed got up in the morning to check temps and he was poking around the lid so I think I caught him just in time.

well not too long ago when i had to switch the hets into bigger tubs, I moved the shelves up a hair as the bigger tubs were the same height. i also instead of moving the flex itself a couple inches away from the back wall, I just moved the shelf forward a little. Figured it would be easier then messin w/ all that tape. I wanted the flex away from the very edge of the tub so they could utilize the heat source more.

airhead me wasnt even thinking that if I move the shelf forward, it would leave a space in the back of the bins.

well the het female found this right away!

good thing we were talking about their weights right after we came down stairs from the lil remodeling project.. I was saying they were one weight, my fiance was saying something different.. So my fiance went back upstairs to check the folder so she could prove me wrong..

all of a sudden i hear a SCREAMMMM. then "Hunny... this isn't gonna work!!!!"

I ran upstairs and there was Charger (het hypo female) staring me face to face. She got out and was on the shelf above hers.

My folder I keep the snakes info is, is on the very top shelf, as my fiance was reaching up (shes short) she didnt even notice the snake at first until Charger struck twards her face!!!!

Oh we laughed soooo hard. needless to say I fixed the shelf and re-adjusted the flex lol and the rack looks a lil like swiss cheese now from all the screw holes LOL

    PS
I was the one who was right w/ the weights :D

My snake room is like a second cage. I keep the doors always shut, and any escapes blocked off, so if somehow someone gets out, i know exactly where to look. In that room is a closet with a bunch of junk in it - tools and whatnot.

Once, Aaron went in to get some wrenches from his bicycle toolbox. I heard a big crash and then he started yelling at me. I went in and he was very flustered - he had taken down his toolbox only to reveal a pretty agitated snake on the shelf behind it, which had caught him off guard enough to make him drop the toolbox.

I knew he was pretty upset, but i couldn't stop laughing.

I grabbed "bubbles" and gave her a hug before putting her back in her tub :)
