I'd like to see what everyone's favorite colubrid is
Just what the title says. I think it would be cool to see what everyone likes as far as colubrids go.
Personally, mine is hognose any kind.

This guy!

Well albino kings in general but I just love him. He gets a bit of a 'tude from time to time but overall he's the coolest colubrid I own. I'm getting a pair of western hoggies soon though so that all might change lol.

Do you have any pics of your hogs? I'd love to see some adults, most of what I've seen are just babies or juvies.

I don't know.. I'd say it's a three way tie between the Vietnamese Blue Beauty, The Appalachicola King, and Corns.

Re: I'd like to see what everyone's favorite colubrid is
I am a huge fan of Old World Rat Snakes, especially Asian Old Worlds.
I'd have to say Vietnamese Blue Beauties, Red Tail Green Rat Snakes and Cave Dwellers are my favorites.
Here is my male and female Vietnamese Blue Beauties.

Ooooo I'm always so tempted to pick up a pair of those..... Somebody had 1.1 for $100 I believe at the Manchester NH show the other week. Sooooooo tempting because they are so beautiful but I'm worried that someone will push their buttons and wind up getting bit (probably my girlfriend lol)

They are quite the handful. My male is over seven feet and the female is just short of six and a half feet.
When I first received them, they were very agressive, striking when you walked past them, etc. After a while, they calmed down a bit, but still struck at me if I got too close. I had to wear gloves and used snake hooks to remove them from their cage.
Now, they are very cautious but I haven't had either one strike at me in months. I took off the gloves and put down the snake hook, took a deep breath and decided if they nailed me, it couldn't hurt so bad. I made slow and deliberate movements, and they started to accept my presence. It was worth trying and it worked. I wouldn't feel comfortable handing them to someone else to hold, but I'm really not worried about getting bit anymore.
In my opinion, if you get a young pair and socialize them to handling, you will have well acclimated, non-aggressive, adults. Just be willing to take a tag or two when they are babies. ;)

Yeah, i saw a few at that show too, right down the road from my folk's house. Great show, run by the same people who run White Plains. I've hardly ever seen a poor animal there. You're right, those snakes are all gooooorgeous! And if your girlfriend gets bit tell her you dig scars... then again she might give you one or two.
I'm used to the Hamburg show where anyone can sell anything so it's a change going to Manchester.
As for the pictures, I'll try and get my camera working and get some up for the ones curious to see adult hognoses.

Re: I'd like to see what everyone's favorite colubrid is
Although I really love Hondouran and Sinaloan Milks, my favorite colubrid is CORNS! Hands down, they are awesome!

Re: I'd like to see what everyone's favorite colubrid is
Well, I have three that I adore, and two of those I own. :P
My top favorite colubrid: Black Milk Snake
(Not my photo; it's the result of a quick google search.)

The other two are white-sided rats, and cave dwelling rat snakes. :)

Nope! Pics are
#1 Western
#2 Mexican
#3 Eastern
#4 Eastern
#5 Tricolor
#6 Tricolor
No Southerns Pictured. Mexicans are just a sub species of the Westerns, so they look very similar.
Here is a Southern

Actually, that is incorrect. There are 3 subspecies of Western Hognose: Plains (Heterodon nasicus nasicus), Dusty ( Heterodon nasicus gloydi), and Mexican ( Heterodon nasicus kennerlyi). They are all considered Western hognose, not the other way around.

Re: I'd like to see what everyone's favorite colubrid is
Bullsnakes
Trans Pecos Ratsnakes
Sunbeam Snakes

Re: I'd like to see what everyone's favorite colubrid is

Re: I'd like to see what everyone's favorite colubrid is
eastern indigos... followed closely by a couple species of vine snakes.
-
Re: I'd like to see what everyone's favorite colubrid is
While I love our female indigo, the P. Flavirufa Flavirufa pair we picked up are both beautiful and a joy to handle.
Still Mojo, our big blacktail cribo, is not only my favorite colubrid, but my favorite snake.

Mine are Western and Speckled Hognose snakes.
P.S. Why doesn't anyone call WHSs "Colubrins" or "Xenodonts" (Xenos for short)?

Re: I'd like to see what everyone's favorite colubrid is
definitely corn snakes! There's a good reason why they make good first time snake pets, because they're just so incredible!
