Reptster Error
Does anyone know what is going on with Reptster.com? I can not get the website to come up. I am getting an error. Does anyone know the number to contact them? I need to schedule a shipment.
Thanks.

I think David had his phone number in his signature over in the fauna thread.

Re: Reptster Error
I want to say they have suspended shipping with fed-ex due to some issues they have/are having

Thanks Connie. I found it through a google search. I called him and he was unaware of this. He is going to check it out and give me a call back.
Thanks again.

I hope that is not the case... I will let you all know once David calls back. Thanks.

Re: Reptster Error
Do that cause there are loads of people that have come to rely on Reptster for their shipping needs

You are looking at one of them. The savings are great.

It is not hard to get yourself certified. You just have to buy the boxes yourself is all.

Yes, but you do not save 40% if you do not go through their site.

Re: Reptster Error
Good news, the site is up. There was an error with their hosting company. I also ordered my shipment yesterday, so it is not true about them not shipping with FedEx.

That's actually not true. Discounts can be negotiated with your FedEx sales rep once you have an account. It's a standard practice with FedEx and your sales rep has a lot of discretion with how much he/she can discount you.
All you have to do is call and ask.
This is in no way a commentary on Reptster ... I have no opinion one way or the other ... I just wanted to point out that large discounts are available for people that are just using FedEx directly ... I know because I have an excellent discount with FedEx and others I know do as well.
In my opinion, people should educate themselves as to what all of the available options for shipping are and choose what works best for them ... Reptster, Air Cargo, direct FedEx, etc ... and HAVE FUN!!! :D

Well stated Adam!! I have never used Reptster, but I checked it out once............turns out, it was cheaper to ship on my own account with FedEx (I'm certified to ship reptiles with them) than through Reptster. I definitely encourage people to check things out first to find out what works best.

Re: Reptster Error
Do they offer discounts because you ship so many packages?
-
Re: Reptster Error
After someone mentioned that they were able to get a discount through Fedex because they weren't making claims on their reptile shipping account I called up my rep and tried to negotiate better pricing. He's thus far been really great with me but flat out told me that Fedex feels that they are extending their service beyond their usual scope to accommodate our niche -- therefore they don't offer such discounts. I'll probably try going thru another rep just to verify that I can't get better discounts -- but I only ship about 100 boxes a year so I'm no where near the volume that they want to see for huge discounts.

That's one of the reasons, sure ... but they also offer discounts to be competitive with the airlines that also ship snakes (before my discounts it was cheaper for me to ship to the west coast via air freight than FedEx ... my rep helped me fix that), they offer discounts because unlike the rest of their customers, you assume all the risk of shipping when you use their service and have limited use of their services ... they offer discounts because a lot of times shipping a $25 animal doesn't make sense if the cost of shipping is going to be $50 ... and lots of other reasons ... you just have to talk with your rep and see what he/she can do for you. I've always found FedEx to be very customer oriented ... at least in the corporate office ... some of the drop off locations can be sketchy.
For me, from day one when I signed up with FedEx (4 or 5 years ago now) it was important for me to develop a relationship with my sales rep ... back then because not a lot of people knew about the live reptile shipper program and he would help me out by contacting FedEx station managers directly whenever I ran into problems ... over time, he's helped me by getting me extra discounts when fuel prices went up and FedEx started increasing fuel surcharges ... when I wanted to ship higher end animals but couldn't afford use FedEx because they have no insurance ... and most recently when I started having FedEx pick up my boxes and incurred additional fees for the pickups.
And I would think now that UPS is about to open the door to live reptile shipping for the general public and since UPS is generally cheaper than FedEx ... FedEx will offer live reptile shippers even more discounts in order to keep their business ... but I could be wrong on that one.

Same here. I spoke with the fedex driver that picks my packages up about this, and he told me that there is no way that they will give me a 40% discount for only shipping about 30 - 40 boxes a year. He said that they would probably work with me some, but not nearly that much.

Re: Reptster Error
10% discount right off the bat for processing the airbill online.
With other negotiated rates, you can be at the 40% level even if you only ship a few boxes a month.
Be polite, state your case, and have a good relationship with your rep and you will be surprised what they will do to help you out.

The nice thing about Reptster, is that you do not have to go through this ordeal. You save 40% right off of the bat.

And with that thought you have no control over your OWN shipment if something went Awry. Which would take more time than calling fed ex directly and getting the information yourself, so in the end, the 10 minutes or so that it took to negotiate a few more discounts from your own personal rep, evens out.
But i am more concerned with those kinds of things than i ever am price.

I did have an issue with a shipment, and I called FedEx directly. I did not have to go through Reptster. The package is still shipped in my name.

Re: Reptster Error
The 40% is on total correct.....if you get your boxes from another place, like the chain stores you can save more then that right off.
My rep gave me an extra 10% right off the bat, so I am up to like 20% with one phone call, and he called me.....LOL

The 40% is on the actual shipping charge. You have to buy your boxes from a supplier. I use superior enterprise.

That is where Reptster gets them when you order. You really only save a few pennies per box when you order thru Reptster versus ordering direct thru Superior and they arrive much faster when ordering direct.

I agree, I do not order my supplies through reptster. I order through superior enterprise.
I order my FedEx shipments through reptster.

Re: Reptster Error
Works fine as long as reptster is here to stay, with your own account you never have that worry. Personally to me it is easier to have my own account with my own rep that I can call and work out any issues with her.
-
Re: Reptster Error
I'd rather use my own account. Not only does my discount beat Reptster's, but I'd rather not do business with a scumbag...Just sayin'!

Wow! I am confused how this discussion ended up in name calling?? This to me seems extremely uncalled for!

In my opinion, if you have a have a problem with David, then take it up with him. Don't call him names forums that he does not belong to, because he can not defend himself.

IMO Everyone has a right to express their opinion of other people whether they are active in the forum or not.

I think that decision is up to the moderators?

We'll have to agree to disagree, Eddie.

First off....David does have an account here and is more than welcome to come and defend himself and/or his business anytime he wishes.
Secondly....name-calling is still against the rules. In the past we have been tolerant of "scumbag" because there are a few individuals out there that are pretty much universally agreed on to be scumbags. But that is not the case with David or Reptster. If you (being the "universal you" and not just the individual being quoted) wish to express your opinion about his personal integrity or business practices, you are more than free to do so without resorting to name-calling.

Fair enough...David is untrustworthy and a liar. He won't defend himself here because he has no defense.
