Whats in your rat cage?
I breed mostly feeder rats so I have quite a few. All are treated like pets and cuddled daily. I'm also a snake & lizard addict, hence the feeder breeding. Once by 2 1/2 weeks grow up I'm going to also be starting lined pet rats :D
Anyways...
Whats in YOUR rat cage? :P
I have:
*Note: All of my rexes are Velveteens, some fluffier than others xD
Males-
GusGus - Agouti Rex Berk, about 6-7 weeks old now. Happily breeding already. Right now he's living in a separate cage with Spooky until the other boys are weaned. He's a real sweetheart, loves to cuddle.
NoName - Black Rex Berk w/ wedge blaze, 2 1/2 weeks, future stud/pet
NoName2 - Himalayan/Cream/Siamese Rex (to early to tell), 2 1/2 weeks, future stud/pet
NonName3 - Black Rex w/ white socks. 1/2 weeks, future stud/pet. (this guy is REALLY handsome, he has one of the most beautiful glossy black coats I have ever seen)
Females -
Breeders --
Spooky - Himalayan
Boo - Himalayan
Casper - Himalayan
Jezebel - Silver Black Berk, standard ear, satin
Crutches - Black Rex English Irish
Future Breeders --
NN - Black (pos. berk) Rex w/ stripe. 2 1/2 weeks.
NM - Agouti (pos. berk) Rex w/ stripe. 2 1/2 weeks.
The rest of the 2 1/2 week NoNames - Black Rex Berks, Self, & pos. English Irish. I'm to lazy to count xD
6 1/2 Week NoNames -
(11) Berk, Self, & pos. English Irish Rex Agouti.
(2) Black Rex Berks
(1) Rex Himalayan
Oddballs -
I can't remember if these guys were all out of the same litter or two different litters. But here's how it went:
Birth: Looked Himalayan
About 1 week or so - Cream hooded markings
1 1/2 weeks - Still looking like pretty cream hoodeds
2 weeks - Still cream hoodeds
2 1/2 weeks - Markings lightening around the noses
3 weeks - Hard to distinguish Himalayan (currently white) from Creams
3 1/2 weeks - Hooded markings. In lavender?!. Seriously, they looked like a light pinkish purple. No pictures, unfortunately.
4 weeks - Still looking lavanderish.
4 1/2 weeks - No more lavender. More of a creamish color again.
5 weeks - Creams hoodeds have a cream colored coat, Himalayan is a pretty bright white. No more hooded markings.
Weirdest thing ever. o-o'
Another note:
All the 2 1/2 weeks are out of Crutches and by a Black Rex Dumbo Berk w/ wedge blaze
All the 6-7 weeks are by Spooky, Boo, and Casper and by 'Frank' a kindasorta black eyed Hairless.
I no longer have the Dumbo or the Hairless. The Hairless killed the Dumbo and then was promptly rehomed :/ I couldn't risk him killing any future stud pups.

xD
It honestly just makes me feel better breeding my own feeders. I like to know exactly were my snake food is coming from xD

Re: Whats in your rat cage?
While I don't currently breed rat, I did a while back, for pet quality only.
Here is my Current List:
Males
Snowball - Siamese, recessive Dumbo (neutered)
Females
Blueberry - Russian Blue Hooded (spay)
Porkchop - Rex, Fawn Hooded, recessive Dumbo and Hairless (spay)
Hershey - Black Self, Velveteen/Rex cross, Recessive hairless (spay)
When we moved, I had to re-home most of my pet rats.
I used to have; Siamese, Himalayan, Burmese, Roan, Mink, Cinnamon, Fawn, Champagne, Russian Blue, American Blue, Russian Silvered Blue, Silver Russian Blue, Lilac, Triamese, Blue Agouti, Platinum (Mink based), Beige, Chocolate, Cinnamon Pearl, Dumbo, Satin, Velveteen, Rex, Split Cap/Stripe, Badger, Dalmatian, Bareback, Hooded, Masked, Patched and Down Under and Self.
I really miss breeding them, they were a lot of fun. I had been breeding rats/mice for twelve years, far before I owned my first reptiles. They are such a pleasure to work with, very intelligent, and quite loving little creatures. :)

Very true. I've got 8 rats now and I'm hoping our siamese X fawn litter turns out some nice females cuz I need to add to our breeders in a bad way now that my favorite female breeder passed away the other day.
I don't know name of colors and patterns for rats all that well but I do have pictures lol. You can see those here

aiiiee! I've always wanted some nice Blue dumbos. We had a beautiful Blue Self Standard female once. Put our spayed girl into shock (she recovered) and nearly killed my Siamese boy >-<
Needless to say she was rehomed rather quickly xD

Re: Whats in your rat cage?
As I said in my last post that was ruined;
Currently, just have two blue males, one with white facial markings and a rex coat.
I will be getting a dwarf male, some hairless males, more blues, siamese, dumbos and rexes from a breeder.

Re: Whats in your rat cage?
I have 2 that will produce feeders, no clue on what they are lol

I have to admit, the first time I got some little english blues, I couldn't believe my eyes. They were so different from my russian blues, just so light and almost purple as babies. :)
Here is a picture of my female when just shy of weaning (the hooded), and her sister that I sold to a member down state.

Oh wow Connie they're beautiful! I might have to see if I can find one of those to replace my blue female that just died. Any idea where I might be able to look to find one of them or were they just a chance pick up?
I feel like I've seen that picture somewhere before............hmmmmmm lol

They were produced by me! I was working with a newer line of rats that I hadn't line bred before, and they were a complete surprise! I had only had Russian Blues up to that point. :D

Re: Whats in your rat cage?
I've got two, big albino boys!! I loove rats. I had a black and white hooded (I think) rat before. He was the most amazing rat ever, and he lived for a really freaking long time. Long enough for the vet to be surprised when I had to put him down :( Would you mind if we post pics too?
Littleindiangirl, those blue rats are very nice. I just get mine from Petco, so they're not too fancy...but at least I give them the chance to be well taken care of, and not some kids throw away pets.

I agree one of the reasons i got into doing it, plus i think its cheaper when you start to get more then a few snakes

Re: Whats in your rat cage?
Well, I don't have the room to properly breed rats, not to mention that I don't really have anywhere to send/give the too large adults. I do breed mice, tho, and have some really pretty ones from silver albinos to a black agouti.
I have kept rats as pets before and think they're great. My favorite was my Golden Agouti girl. There is one rat in the house now, a sweet Siamese male, that I'm trying to find a good home for. :)
