BP Hemi-Penes Issue
My three month old ball python keeps sticking out his hemipenis and pulling it back in quickly. He does it pretty much constantly while he's moving around, and especially when his tail is curling. It sticks out for a total of about a second and then goes all the way back in, although sometimes his cloaca remains open a little bit. I think he may be doing it in his cage as well, since I've found dirt stuck to his cloaca. I've been soaking him to keep it clean. His cage is all right, temperatures, humidity, hides, etc., and he's eating fine. He doesn't really seem stressed or anything - he never balls up and he's quite outgoing, always looking around. I'm really not sure what's going on... any ideas? Thank you!

I guess its your job as a cupid to find him a female and hook them up? I am sure he will love that. :D

Re: BP Hemi-Penis Issue
Maybe inverted cloaca? I've never heard of anything else similar to this description.

Re: BP Hemi-Penis Issue
Have you ever seen him defecate? I would also have him checked for parasites.

Re: BP Hemi-Penis Issue
Three months old is a bit on the young side to be actively looking for a girl. I would opt for a vet check with a fecal exam for parasites, just to be sure there isn't some irritation or inflamation causing him to do this. A prolapse can be a serious problem, so if you see him crawling around with a hemipenis out, and not drawing it back in, that's going to need prompt vet attention.

Re: BP Hemi-Penis Issue
I would switch to paper towel substrate to keep the dirt out until he stops doing that..

Best info right here for ya and your lil guy! Please get him checked out by a vet.

Re: BP Hemi-Penis Issue
I had a corn snake that kept doing that. He only did it while being held though, or when ticked off. He grew out of it. But I would have it checked to be sure.

thank you! I'm making an appointment for my next day off, so hopefully everything will be fine... other than that he seems great.
