I'm so excited!
We have a beige/cream hooded male. The last time Chance produced a cream hooded, she died (the whole litter died), but these babies seem to be doing really well. I'm really hoping this one makes it. I was hoping for a cream hooded from her this time around and I got my wish.
Chance is an Agouti Hooded. She was bred with a Berkshire. Initial count was 12 but we fed some off. They were born October 1st.
The female babies consist of 2 Agouti Hoodeds, 2 Black Hoodeds, 2 Albino, and one Berkshire. The males consist of 2 Albinos, and 1 Cream Hooded. We are keeping the male cream hooded and one agouti hooded female. :) I'm so excited about the little boy though.

We are not sure which of the agouti hoodeds we should keep. We like the darker one because she has a J on her back, but we like the other one because she is a nice light brown.

You can have the one in the middle and I want the other 2 :D

Re: I'm so excited!
Looks more like a very cute little Fawn Hooded! Fawn's tend to have a reddish tent, while beige has a creamier base. He's a for sure keeper! :D
While both are adorable, I'm rather partial to the female Agouti on the far left.

Re: I'm so excited!
The cream hooded boy is all mine! I was hoping a cream hooded would show up. I could breed her to the same male in the future if you want and I can try for another cream hooded for you.
I'm going to get a picture of the whole litter so you can see what they all look like. And it gives me an excuse to take pictures of cute rats! :)

Re: I'm so excited!
Whoops! Miscounted. We actually only have two boys. One albino, and the cream/fawn hooded.
Males on the left, females on the right.

Re: I'm so excited!
The fawn/cream hooded looks more cream in real life. He doesn't look as red. Not sure why he's showing up red in the pictures. Maybe its because the lighting in the room has a yellowish tint and its messing up the color in the picture.

Re: I'm so excited!
All rats that live here with pet status (all breeders have pet status) must have names. We just decided on names for the two holdbacks. The agouti with the j on her back is named J. She will eventually become Ray's roommate. Ray is her half sister. And they will also be joined by Ally, Ray's adopted sister. :) The little boy is named Vegas. Since his father's name is Hampton (which is a place) and his mother is named Chance, we decided we would combine the two and came up with Vegas.

They are all adorable! Thanks for taking the time to post the pictures. Baby rats are just so cute.

Re: I'm so excited!
Thanks for taking a look. I love seeing baby rats. :) I'm hoping that Thing 2, my black hooded girl gets pregnant soon so that Vegas won't have to wait long for a cagemate. He won't be able to stay with his sisters and he'll be took small to live with the big boys, so he'll be all by his lonesome until Thing 2 has her first litter and I can hold back a baby or two from that litter. :)

Re: I'm so excited!
What a beautiful litter! Very healthy, plump, little sausages. :D
It makes me miss breeding rats. Some of my favorites were always the PEW's, they always have the best personalities. They were also great mommies, and actually, my PEW's had a longer average lifespan.

Re: I'm so excited!
My best momma rat is a beige self. She is wonderful and produces great babies. She even adopted a little pinky that was refused by one of my snakes and that baby is now tottering around and attempting to play with Ray, Doe's biological daughter, who is 2-3 times her size. Its really cute.
I want to expand my colony, so now I'm on the lookout for rats. I have 4 breedable females, 4 hold back females that are growing up, 3 breedable males, and 1 hold back male, so I have a small colony right now. I want to find a dumbo female to breed to my dumbo male, but they are rare in pet stores. I have seen a few at the pet store I get reptile stuff from but those rats are not the best quality. They tend to have illnesses and low weights.

They will look cream to you alone, but next to a beige they are clearly redder at that age. As she grows up she will lose that orange red color and probably be hard to tell from a dark beige.

Re: I'm so excited!
So is he considered a fawn hooded, or cream hooded?
-
Re: I'm so excited!
I would personally call him a fawn hooded. He's super light and I have a feeling that as he gets old the color will fade a bit. I've got a fawn hooded female that faded a bit with age.

Mmk. He is so adorable. We are going out today to pick up some more breeder females. They will go into QT, of course. :) How long should QT be?
I'm hoping to find a dumbo female, but we shall see. I'm also going to be picking out some breeder mice. :)
